Help Define Downtown Deerfield at Public Session Nov. 29

Deerfield Township will hold a second public session on Wednesday, Nov. 29, to define the vision for the proposed Downtown Deerfield development. The meeting will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Fire Station 57, located at 3435 U.S. Route 22. All are welcome.

Downtown Deerfield is part of the township's balanced plan for continued economic vitality in the township that creates jobs, eliminates debt, strengthens schools and improves the quality of life in our region. Plans for Downtown Deerfield include 30+ acres of public space that could be used for a dedicated farmers' market, outdoor amphitheater, network of trails, enhanced stormwater features and arts and entertainment district.

Officers from the Warren County Drug Task Force will gather at the Arbor Square Kroger on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The program provides a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired medications while raising awareness about the potential for their abuse.

All pill-form prescription and over-the-counter medications will be accepted. Please do not bring liquids or syringes.

A majority of misused prescription drugs are obtained by abusers from their family and friends. Since launching the Drug Take Back Day program six years ago, the Drug Enforcement Administration estimates more than 8.1 million pounds of medications have been collected and safely eliminated.

The township's very popular Santa's Workshop holiday celebration returns Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 to 11 a.m. or 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Snyder House in Cottell Park. Registration opens Nov. 1 and, as in past years, is expected to fill quickly. Due to the popularity of this free event, registration is open only to Deerfield Township residents with children ages 3 to 8 years old.

The Snyder House will transform into the North Pole as a bustling workshop for all of Santa's helpers. The man in red himself will make an appearance to feed his reindeer and hear everyone's wish lists for the season. Two crafts, cookies and juice will be provided.
