Deerfield Township Earns High Financial Rating

We're excited to announce that Moody's Investors Service recently upgraded our credit rating, granting an issuer rating of Aa1 to Deerfield Township. What does it mean? The Aa1 rating reflects the township's stable tax base, healthy financial operations, strong reserves, and moderate debt and pension burden. It's a general indicator to any future investors that the township is a very low credit risk.

Deerfield Township's leadership and staff are committed to being good stewards of the township's resources and to maintaining a foundation of financial accountability, transparency and integrity. The Moody's rating is a mark of confidence in those efforts and demonstrates that Deerfield is well positioned for continued success.

Odds are if you've called our administrative phone number or stopped by our offices, you've been greeted by Bobbi Kessler. Bobbi has served as the township's administrative assistant since July 2014. Bobbi recently accomplished a very inspiring personal goal: She logged 20,000 steps every single day in January!

"My New Year's resolution for 2018 was to do something different each month pertaining to my current lifestyle habits," Bobbi said. "I've been walking 10,000 steps a day for a few years now. So, I set my goal for 20,000 a day, knowing I would have to work for it."

To get in those extra steps, Bobbi's weekdays start at 3 a.m. with a three-mile walk/jog in her basement. She added fast walking at lunch, and then built in other opportunities for exercise during the workday. "I added extra steps by going the opposite direction to increase the distance of wherever my destination was, like the copier, the breakroom or someone's office," Bobbi said. "I had to get creative, but it was kind of fun, although more difficult than I expected."

Bobbi's creativity shines in her township role, too, for which she says she's always learning. "The thing I like most about working for the township are all the opportunities I get to help residents," Bobbi said. "You never know what kind of question will be on the other end of the phone when you answer it. Are we allowed to have a pet pig? A rooster? Or, how do I get rid of antifreeze, an old console TV or a load of fluorescent light bulbs? I never realized what an important role a township provides for a community until I came to Deerfield Township."

What's next for Bobbi? In February, she went "back" to 10,000 daily steps but added three days of 20-minute weight training each week (plus, no pop or French fries). In March, she plans to make sure she's getting more water. "It will be challenging to see what ideas I can come up with for the remaining nine months of the year," Bobbi said.

Summer Camp Registration Now Open

Camps are offered for young people entering kindergarten through eighth grade and take place from mid-June to early August. In addition to those offered by our own Parks and Recreation Department, the township hosts art camps in partnership with The Arts Alliance and technology camps through iDaP Academy.
