Pat's Paragraphs

June 2018

Dear Friends,

How’s your faith today? I want to talk about trusting God, about how we rely on Him when things don’t look so good, because in times like these, we all face challenges to our faith.

Have you read this passage before?
“Who is among you that fears the Lord, that obeys the voice of His servant, that walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon His God.” Is 50:10

Have you ever walked in darkness? Had no light? Are there any of us who haven’t?! Then the advice is for us – trust in the name of the Lord, rely on God .

LLT has been in existence as its own non-profit organization since 1993. 25 years. Some of you go back to our beginnings, when my husband Jim was traveling and preaching. We’ve had myriad dark times in those 25 years. Unnumbered opportunities to trust in the name of the Lord. And we’ve gotten to see His faithfulness over and over again.

He provided for and accomplished the Sabbath Project (Jim’s dream). It was finished and since then various translated versions (25+) of “The Seventh Day” series have come out, along with the Bonus Features DVD and the Sabbath History Seminars series.
He provided for and accomplished “Hell and Mr. Fudge” and “The Wandering Day,” and He’s walked with us through the production of a number of other videos, the preaching of many sermons, giving of many seminars and writing of many articles and blogs.
LLT is a small company, just two to five employees at any given time. You, the non-employee part of the company, you who love the same God and the same truths we love, have been the financial and prayer support for this work through dark and golden days. We are so grateful!

Our commitment to mission is firm. We see the Sabbath and the State of the Dead as the two great end-time issues. Our newest venture, the Youtube series, is driven by a sense of urgency to use the most effective means possible to confront error directly and magnify truth as never before. This short-form series on the State of the Dead is just one of several forays into the world of social media.

But let me tell you, it takes a lot of time and skill to prepare and market our faith this way! Research and writing, creating visual effects, managing conflicting schedules, responding to comments on our blogs, and doing it all in a timely manner – can be very challenging! But we believe it’s well worth the challenge to potentially reach a far wider audience than we have ever reached before.

Right now, our greatest hindrance is the lack of adequate funding. We’ve never had a fundraiser on staff; God has always filled that role, moving on the hearts of His people to supply the need. He called us to a walk of faith from the beginning, and to this day He has kept us dependent upon His provision. Again and still, we are asked to trust Him. . . to know that He will provide what is required – and thus mark our efforts with His approval.

Dear friends, we are on our knees seeking God’s guidance, timing and means. One of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite authors, Ellen White, goes like this: “Our need is the qualification which gives us the assurance that we shall receive the gift.” TM 519

We are definitely qualified! We have great need for God’s gift. I crave your prayers and support, that our efforts here at LLT might be united with rest of God’s work and workers, combating lies, revealing Truth and drawing men to the Savior.

Thank you for joining us in prayer for God’s abundant provision, and for seeking His will as you consider supporting this work.

In Christ,

A Degrading Doctrine

We continue to find past and present champions of Conditionalism. It’s an honor to stand with them in proclaiming that eternal life is possible only through the sacrifice of Jesus. Their arguments against the prevailing Immortal Soul doctrine inspire us with renewed determination to point readers and viewers to the truth about the nature of man, the plan of salvation, and God’s plan for the eternal future.

Here, for example, is a powerful statement from 19 th-century English minister and editor William Leask. Take a minute to read through this complex, single-sentence paragraph – typical of his era and genre. He makes a great point:

“There is a doctrine which degrades man and dishonors God and makes the entire scheme of the universe a disastrous failure; a doctrine everywhere current, which has for ages dominated theology, driven multitudes to madness or atheism, corrupted the Gospel, obscured the light of Revelation, and brought fearful discredit upon the ineffable character of our Father in heaven: namely the doctrine that all souls are deathless.” *
