Summer is finally here! Additionally, many health mandates are also relaxing. It is time to get out and back into life, vising with friends, neighbors and other community members. You can almost feel the anticipation mounting!

Although we all look forward to return to some semblance of “normal” it is important to do so safely:
• While driving, be aware of your surroundings, motorists need to obey speed restrictions and share the roadway with pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists. Wear your seatbelt and make sure all passengers do as well. Utilize a designated driver if you plan to consume alcoholic beverages.
• If you are riding a motorcycle, wear eye protection and drive defensively. • Pedestrians need to be aware when crossing streets and walk on roadways against (facing) traffic.
• Bicyclists need to obey traffic regulations, including stop signs.
• Show each other some basic level of respect.
Respecting each other and our individual right to be safe in the community we share will aid significantly in the ability for everyone to enjoy this summer. This also is relevant in terms of all aspects of our individual lives. Show respect and you will be more likely to receive respect, despite individual opinions, differences or any other factor.
Enjoy the summer, but give others the opportunity to do so, as well!
Statistically speaking the months of July and August are typically the hottest months in Wisconsin. This can make even simple daily tasks daunting. Doing these simply tasks in high temperatures force the body to work significantly harder to maintain a normal temperature. This can lead to heat exhaustion or even worse; heat stroke. Heat stroke occurs when the core body temperature rises to 103 degrees or higher, this is a true medical emergency that requires immediate medical attention. Some of the more severe symptoms of heat stroke include a loss of consciousness, confusion or odd behavior changes, vomiting, and many will also notice the body will typically stop sweating. Heat stroke can be avoided if you notice the early signs of heat exhaustion. Some of these early signs include heavy sweating, muscle cramps, tiredness, dizziness and headaches. While everyone has varying tolerances to heat and all are affected differently, people over the age of 65 and infants are most at risk for developing these illnesses. At the first sign of heat exhaustion, it is important to get your core body temperature down and cool your body. This can be done by drinking water, removing extra clothing, moving to a cooler area or taking a cool shower. If you suspect any signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately. Do not delay seeking emergency medical attention.
