Dear Friend
The Delaware Division of Developmental Disabilities Services has an opening for a new Director of Community Services. This is a remarkable opportunity for an individual who can capture this unique moment to build the future of home and community-based services (HCBS) for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Delaware. Delaware’s small size and centralized oversight situates the state to be a leader in IDD service innovation.
Delaware’s HCBS supports 5000+ individuals across three counties with services ranging from prevocational and support employment, and day habilitation, to residential habilitation, nurse and behavioral consultation, and respite through the State’s 1915c Medicaid Waiver, known as the Lifespan Waiver.
The new Director will join a remarkable team in Community Services with extensive knowledge in and experience with the system of HCBS in Delaware. This team can provide immediate assistance to a new Director as they learn the specific features of IDD services in Delaware and support research, planning, and policy development for the future. Delaware will be seeking renewal of their Lifespan Waiver in 2024.
Delaware’s DDDS is making significant investments this year in key areas of our service system including: assessing and improving access to mental health services for individuals with IDD; workforce development, recruitment, and training; enhanced behavioral health supports; and expanding access to employment.
The Director of Community Services plays a critical role on the leadership team for the Division, and as an essential point of contact for our stakeholders across the state.
The ideal candidate will bring passion and commitment for serving those who receive DDDS services, strategic thinking with a focus on service innovation, and an appreciation for how to leverage the State’s role in maintaining the health of our service system.
Delaware DDDS has offices in all three counties offering the Director an opportunity to choose a location that meets their needs. In addition to State benefits, the Department of Health and Social Services also provides flexibility through Alternate Work Arrangements that can accommodate combinations of on-site and remote work locations.
