The Educational Resources You've Been Asking For

One year ago the ACPM e-Learning POD was launched, and since that time our educational resources have continued to grow and expand in exciting ways!

Over the last few months we have launched the Expert Lecture Series and just last week, we put on our first seminar in over three years -
Updates in Biomechanics: Practical Pearls.
The Expert Lecture Series (ELS) is one of the top benefits of being a Fellow and/or Member of the ACPM.

The ELS is a monthly interactive lecture series provided by a diverse group of educators and is particularly valuable for student members and residents.
SPECIAL NOTE: If you interact with podiatric students and residents, please encourage them to JOIN THE COLLEGE, so they can take advantage of these educational resources free of charge!

We would like to extend a special thanks to our first
ELS presenters: Dr. Danae Lowell and Dr. Latricia Allen

Next Expert Lecture Series: December 9th, 2021 at 5:00pm PST.
Topic: Biomechanics Aspects of Surgery
Speaker: Jarrod Shapiro, DPM, FACPM

Dr. Shapiro is an ACPM board member, clinical podiatrist, teacher, residency program director of the Chino Valley Medical Center program, and writer who practices in the Pomona, California area as an associate professor at the Western University of Health Sciences College of Podiatric Medicine.
While in practice for the past 16 years, he has been an online editor of the Practice Perfect blog where he advocates for student and resident education and an improved understanding of lower extremity biomechanics.

Dr. Shapiro is an advocate for proper treatment of podiatrists commensurate with their education, training, and experience and is excited to see the future potential for a plenary license that would give podiatrists a seat at the political table with our allopathic and osteopathic colleagues. He would also like to see continued improvement in podiatric education with a national movement toward a more equivalent education between podiatric students and those in the MD and DO community.

ACPM Seminars are Back!
On November 13, the ACPM implemented its first seminar in over three years - Updates in Biomechanics: Practical Pearls.

This 4-CECH event featured key educators in the field of biomechanics and there were 125 DPMs in attendance!
Thank you, Dr. Tara Deaver (Education Committee Chair) and the ACPM Education Committee for your hard work and dedication to ensuring a successful online education event.

This week's seminar provided an extremely positive outlook for future meetings to come!
Some Attendee Feedback:
  • "(Dr. Choate) had interesting concepts in education, I would be excited to see a lecture series by her regarding her insights in biomechanics and new techniques she is teaching her students."

  • "The entire Staff and Quality of the Presentations is perfect!"

  • "I think what you are doing for the profession is outstanding, and I appreciate your efforts."

We want to thank all of the faculty members of this event and look forward to providing future seminars in the key areas of Podiatric Medicine.

A note from the President to
ACPM Fellows and Members
Scott Spencer, DPM, FACPM

To Fellows and Members of the American College of Podiatric Medicine,

As 2021 draws to a close, I want to address you and, once again, thank you for making ACPM a better organization. Your support and utilization of the resources the College offers have been nothing short of phenomenal. It has been a great honor representing this organization and watching our membership grow. We are now the largest APMA affiliate organization.

The credit for all of this growth and expansion goes not only to you, the members, but also our talented and hardworking Board of Directors. Through their tireless efforts the ACPM e-Learning POD came into being. If you have not explored this area, please do. It can help you fulfill CME credit, as well as MOC credit for your American Board of Podiatric Medicine certification. Our monthly Expert Lecture Series has been fantastic and our recent half-day seminar on biomechanics, in which the Board served a large roll in lecturing and providing content. The members on the BOD of ACPM are a truly amazing group of talented people. It has been a pleasure working with and learning from them.

If you detect a sad tone to my message, it is due to the fact that my time as President of this organization comes to close. I can say without reservation, it has been one of the best experiences of my life. To see the organization thrive and grow during one of the most trying and anxiety-producing times any of us have ever experienced has been an amazing thing. To be able to work with wonderful people who have inspired me is a gift that I will never forget.

I have learned that dwelling on the past is not productive. With that in mind, the future of our organization looks brighter than ever. Dr. Javier Cavazos will be your next President and he will do an amazing job. He is passionate about ACPM and has been responsible for many of our best initiatives. We have also hired an Executive Director. We will make a formal announcement soon, but the individual we have hired has an incredible background not just in podiatry, but in business and organizational systems. Top this off with our amazing BOD and of course you, Fellows and Members of ACPM.

Thank you for allowing me to be your President these past two years. I wish all of you safe and happy holidays.
