"You must be the change you wish to see in the world".

- Mahatma Gandhi

Hey Fellow Delta Dems,

Tuesday night’s debate, as described by Dan Rather, was definitely the best debate a Democrat has had against Trump in the last eight (it seems like 80) years. Harris was in command and kept her cool. She knew her stuff and was well prepared. Most importantly, she was presidential. Trump appeared angry and never once, to my knowledge, even looked at his opponent. He winced often, took the bait repeatedly, and fell back on his tried-and-true behavior: bullying, even the moderators.

The latest tally shows 33 lies by Trump to one by Harris. According to CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale, “No major presidential candidate before Donald Trump has ever lied with this kind of frequency.” There was stiff competition for the biggest whopper of the night. This one certainly is a contender: “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs. The people that came in, they’re eating the cats, they’re eating, they’re eating the pets of the people that live there.”

To top off a great evening for Democrats, minutes after the debate, Taylor Swift posted to her 283 million Instagram followers that she would be voting for Harris and Walz in November. She signed the post, “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady.” As of this morning, there were more than 400,000 clicks from her page to the voter registration website.

We had a great turn out for our watch party at the theater in Paonia. It was a fun evening watching the debate with an enthusiastic audience on the big screen. Visiting with fellow Delta County Democrats was a special bonus and just what we needed. A big thank you to all those who made it happen.

Training Session Saturday 9/21/24

Delta County Dem Precinct Organizers and Interested Volunteers please come to Memorial Hall in Hotchkiss (175 1st St, Hotchkiss, CO 81419) from 10am until 1pm on Saturday 9/21/24 to learn about the various methods of connecting with our Democratic and Unaffiliated neighbors. We’ll be going over voter lists, explaining phone calling techniques, post card writing efforts and door knob hanging excursions with local Candidates.

If you are a Precinct Organizer and have questions about how you should go about connecting with the voters in your precinct, swing by and we’ll clarify anything you are unsure about. If you are new to volunteering and want to join one of our teams, come by and see what we’re up to. Join in whatever effort you’d like.... a little or a lot.

We have Volunteer Coordinators on board and directing several efforts you are welcome to join…. post card writing, phone calling or distributing doorknob literature.

We have 10 Precincts without PO’s so, we’d like to enlist a few volunteers to get the word out to those precincts too.

Ruth Marion is heading the Precinct Organizers and and the phone calling effort. If you are interested in helping the Delta Dems contact fellow Dems and Unaffiliated voters please send an email to info@deltacountydems.com

and mention phone calling in your message. I’ll make sure Ruth gets your message.

Barbara Silverman is organizing our postcard writing campaign. Would you prefer to help us send voters postcards? Well, this is the team for you. Please send us an email at info@deltacountydems.com and I’ll send your email to Barb. She’ll let you know what the plan is and set you up with everything you need.

Helping the Local Candidates

Colorado House District 58 Candidate Kathleen Curry

Kathleen Curry (HD 58 Candidate) and her team are looking for folks to help with walking and leaving door knob literature in the North Fork Valley. A great way to get some exercise while helping Kathleen connect with some voters. There are two direct contacts you can make to help the effort. The local person organizing the effort is Sydney Shaw (Sydney@paonia.com). Kathleen’s Campaign manager Kevin Kuns (kevinkuns@gmail.com) is the other organizer. Contact them ASAP. The goal is to have several NFV Dems walk with Kathleen on Saturday 9/28.

“These positions reflect our values, from ensuring that the ultra-wealthy don’t undermine our democracy, to protecting the right to an abortion, to finally enshrining the right to marriage for all Coloradans,” said Shad Murib, Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party. “Colorado Democrats are charting a path forward in our pursuit of freedom for all, and we invite folks of all backgrounds and zip codes to join us as we work to build an even better state to call home.”

Here is a shorthand analysis of Colorado Ballot Issues By Eric Sondermann.

Whatever you can do to help our effort to get the word out to as many reasonable and concerned voters who live in Delta County will be greatly appreciated.

The importance of the November 5, 2024 election can not be overstated.
