The History of Jabberwock
The idea of Jabberwock was taken from the immortal children's classic, Alice in Wonderland. Each year, the Jabberwock summoned all of the creatures of his kingdom to put on a show; A Gala Event. Keeping in this tradition, in 1925, the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. started an innovative, development and community service, fundraising program for girls. The success of this venture led to the adoption of the Jabberwock which has become a part of Delta's rich legacy.
Program Overview
This program is being held for school-aged girls who would enjoy a program that offers an opportunity to increase self awareness, develop and display presentation skills, and raise money for scholarships while forming new friendships and a heightened exposure to positive and professional, African American women.
The Jaberwock Pageant spotlights each contestant in Royal Splendor. After participating in fun and uplifting activities, each of the young ladies will experience their own special wonderland.
Purpose
Jabberwock is a fund-raising event. This is not the typical pageant. The participants who raise the largest amount of funds in her category by the due date will be crowned with the Ms. Jabberwock title. Each participant has an equal opportunity to win. Previous pageant experience is not required and has no bearing on who wins the competition. In the spirit of being fair, the amount of funds raised by each participant will remain confidential and with a third-party accountant until the night of the event and the winner is announced.
