Call to Action and Updates:

Public Comment for OC Supes, Update on Woofy Acres, Factory Farm Map, and New Podcast Video!

The OC Board of Supervisors has placed the new OC Animal Care contract between the County and the cities on its agenda for February 24, 2026.

It is Agenda Item #4.

We are asking the Board to include regular updates on the shelter’s Strategic Plan in this contract. You can review the Strategic Plan here, as it remains the blueprint for a strong and effective sheltering system.

The Board approved the Strategic Plan in 2018, but implementation veered off course during COVID. Unfortunately, we have seen the results: substandard care for animals, fewer adoptions, and more animals left on the streets—an outcome that is both cruel and one that exacerbates the pet overpopulation problem.

It’s time to get back on track. We need Orange County to follow the OC Animal Care Strategic Plan.

PLEASE EMAIL THEM AT THIS ADDRESS, AND INCLUDE "Public Comment, Agenda Item #4" IN THE SUBJECT LINE.

We are asking the OC Supervisors to: “Please add a provision to this contract requiring regular progress reports on the implementation of the Strategic Plan.”

UPDATE!

Woofy Acres/Dianne Bedford Cruelty Case

Congratulations everyone, our voices were heard! The District Attorney did not offer a plea deal to Dianne, which means that at this time the felony charges against her will proceed forward.

The next hearing date is in March. Stay tuned for updates...

New Interactive Map of California's Factory Farms Available to the Public!

A new website called FactorFarmingWatch went live this week.

What is Factory Farm Watch?

Factory Farm Watch is a map and database of the largest, most intensive animal operations in California. In addition to consolidating data from various government databases in one place, it also features data obtained through original, manual research and investigative fieldwork.

It is the most comprehensive single source of information on California's enormous factory farming industry. With this tool, you can learn about these operations' animal populations, environmental impacts, and brand supply chains. Where available, you can see photos and videos of the conditions for animals living in these facilities.

Factory Farm Watch aims to democratize access to information about the often secretive operations and impacts of factory farms in California. It is a resource for journalists, policymakers, advocates, and residents.
