"The Healing Power of Art"
“Art is coming face to face with yourself.”
- Jackson Pollock.
One way of trying to survive the modern world with its unique challenges along with its difficulties they pose to our mental health is to bring more art into our lives. It’s one of the most unexpectedly useful things we can do for ourselves when we’re feeling down. The various art forms available to us can lift our spirits, remind us of what we love, help us return perspective to our lives, and is one of our tools to help us fight despair and alienation. Artwork is never merely a decoration, regardless if a painting, sculpture, dance, or the performing arts.
“The world always seems brighter when you’ve just made something that wasn’t there before”
-Neil Gaiman
When we bring art into our lives, we become more complete since it may tell us what is missing from our lives. Art is not just a pleasing aesthetic response; it’s a call to evolve in a new direction to assist us in our search for contentment, completeness, and finding our essence in life. Art also has the power to accept our imperfections. Allowing us to be capable of making peace with our less than perfect selves, and help us to recognize what is good within the thorns and thistles in our garden of life. Art is the peace we can easily bring into our life to help us alleviate some of the absurdity of life.
The Demitasse Players works of art help us to expose our audiences to the performing arts in the form of plays, movies, short stories, and music, to help us learn a little more about ourselves. There is sound evidence that the performing arts can also improve our mental outlook in life.
With this said, we will now share with you a song I composed, ”Ding My Shine.” Performed by the Demitasse Band, featuring Drew Caico, ( Musical Director), Eric Scholz (Digital Director and Marketing Director), and Thomas Lloyd. The song is about a middle age man alienated from his suburban subdivision life. I believe we all may be able to relate to this song to some degree. This is the first song we performed with horns with Latin rhythms. Also, we also included the theme songs to our movies, “An Existential Date", and "The Clothes Line", composed and performed by Drew Caico. I do hope our art form offers you some healing and happiness into your lives.
