A Message from the Director | |
The Public Policy and Management Center was founded more than 60 years ago, by Dr. Hugo Wall. In our office is a quilt my mom made with a quote by Dr. Wall, “To achieve our ideals, to realize the hopes of democracy, we must think and act together.”
So true, so hard.
At the PPMC, we are so fortunate to work with communities across our state on difficult issues ranging from public safety reform, to mental health, to kindergarten readiness, and so many more. None of these are easy. None of these issues will see progress unless “we think and act together.”
As we celebrate the 4th of July, the founding of this experiment in democracy, and honor the ultimate sacrifice of so many to preserve these values, I want to thank all of you for your commitment and involvement in making communities better. Happy 4th of July.

Dr. Camille Wardrop Alleyne: Born in Trinidad & Tobago, Alleyne earned several engineering degrees in the U.S., and worked for the U.S. Dept. of Defense and NASA. She later worked for the U.S. Department of Defense before returning to NASA. She founded the Brightest Stars Foundation, which helps girls in Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America learn and lead in STEM fields. | |

Jean-Michel Basquiat: An expressionist artist known for his unique style, Basquiat's work expressed his own emotion and motifs from African, Aztec, and Hispanic cultures. Basquiat rocketed to fame in the '80s, among colleagues like Andy Warhol. He was often the youngest artist featured in exhibitions and his work still provokes discussion and inspires artists all over the world. | |
