Democracy Begins with Civic Learning

Civic education is the beginning of youth civic engagement and productive adult participation in civic affairs. Join 100+ civics organizations for Civic Learning Week, March 6-10, featuring five days of workshops, webinars and other activities sponsored by iCivics and the CivXNow coalition, aimed at understanding and promoting youth civic learning, education and engagement. Our democracy depends on it!

2022 All-America City Celebrations

On February 16th, the Institute for Citizens and Scholars released a new report, ‘Mapping Civic Measurement: How Are We Assessing Readiness and Opportunities?’. The report provides maps of the civic field, reviewing and analyzing existing literature, practices, and tools.

Los Angeles Tackles Digital Equity

The National Civic League is assisting the City of Grand Rapids, MI in a series of community outreach efforts; the work began in October 2022 and is scheduled to finish in April 2023. We often engage the expertise of senior fellows to amplify many of our civic engagement projects throughout the U.S. Most recently, some of these experts along with League staff gathered in Grand Rapids to facilitate community conversations surrounding public safety with three underserved populations including, youth and young adults, LBGTQ+, and immigrant, Latino/ Hispanic communities.

Key to the designation of the City of Los Angeles as an All-America City last year was its work on digital inclusion.
