Democratic Sheriff Candidate Josh King Stands with Immigrants in Majority-Minority Virginia County
DUMFRIES, Va. – Iraq War veteran and Deputy Sheriff Josh King released the following statement in response to the Prince William Times’ editorial that noted nearly one in four residents in the county were born in other countries:
“One in four people in Prince William (and one in three in Manassas Park) are immigrants, and yet Sheriff Glen Hill has deputized local law enforcement officers to act as agents of Trump’s ICE. Local law enforcement should focus on keeping people safe, not on tearing families apart and making people afraid to report crime. I stand with our friends and neighbors and will make sure ALL residents receive equal treatment under the law!”
287(g) makes communities less safe because people – including survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault – are afraid to report crime.
King has been endorsed by CASA in Action, the largest electoral organization advocating for immigrants’ rights in the Mid-Atlantic. He recently stood in support of immigrants at a “Lights for Liberty” rallyin Old Town Manassas.
