Congrats to House G off of Hyde Park!
House I and House C took 2nd and 3rd place.
Really, a huge congrats to all of the houses nominated.
They are beautiful and we appreciate the time and work that went into the Christmas decorations.

We know the folks in 2072 will love it!
What a special year it's been celebrating our Sesquicentennial birthday with all of you.

Cemetery – Wreaths Across America
The 5th Annual Wreaths Across America event took place at Fairview Cemetery on Saturday, December 17th.
Volunteers and participants for the Fairview ceremony included the American Legion, the Daughters of the American Revolution, American Legion Auxiliary, American Legion Post Riders, Fairview Cemetery Staff, Tyson Chicken Transport, and Boy Scout Troops 605, 403 and 611.
The event first kicked off with the delivery of over 700 fresh balsam-fir wreaths created by Worcester Wreath Company of Harrington, Maine, delivered by Tyson Chicken Transport.
The ceremony began with a beautiful bagpipe performance by Rob Ballew of the Sherman Police Regional Pipe Band, and the speeches and honors were presented by Post Commander Coleen Anderson, Michelle Alverson (Vice-Regent of the DAR Preston Chapter), Lt. Col Dr. Meredith “Buddy” Merrick (keynote speaker, Navy Representative), Jamie W. Thomas (guest speaker and US Marine Corps Representative), and American Legion Auxiliary President Lee Chamberlain. The posting of the Colors was conducted by Scout Troup 605, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Jackie Judkins of American Legion Post 62.
The Ceremonial Wreath ceremony was conducted by representatives of the multiple branches of the military, the POW/MIA, and First Responders. The Ceremonial Wreaths were place by: Lt. Col Merrick (Navy), Jackie Judkins (Army), Doug Lacey (Air Force), Robert Stephenson (Coast Guard), Drew Alverson (Merchant Marines), Jamie Thomas (Marine Corps), Chris Sanders (Space Force), David Kemp (First Responders), and Jim Allen (POW and MIA). At 11:00 am CST – in sync with the ceremony in Arlington National Cemetery - each representative placed a wreath, saluted, and honored the respective fallen Veterans of each branch.
Following the ceremonial wreath laying, Rob Ballew played TAPS, and Mark Thompson of the American Legion followed by playing TAPS on the bugle. It was a beautiful and solemn tribute to our Veterans.
Following the ceremony, over 700 wreaths were laid on Veterans graves by volunteers and family members. A reception was held in the Fairview Chapel for all attendees with hot chocolate and cookies provided by the American Legion Auxiliary Post 62 and the Daughters of the American Revolution, Preston Chapter.
Next year’s event will be on Saturday, December 16, 2023. You may find information about sponsoring a wreath anytime at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org.
“Save the Date” cards will be available throughout the year at the Fairview Cemetery office and the American Legion Post 62 at 419 W. Crawford Street in Denison.
