ORANGE, Connecticut — June 15, 2020 — Today the AVANGRID (NYSE: AGR) Board of Directors announced the appointment of Dennis V. Arriola as Chief Executive Officer effective July 20, 2020. Arriola succeeds James P. Torgerson who will retire on June 23, 2020.

The US Hispanic population is now estimated at 18%, or 60 million, and 25 percent of America's K-12 public school students are Hispanic. Sixty-six percent of Hispanics who pursue a higher education will attend a Hispanic Serving Institution or HSI.

HSIs have a verified 25% Hispanic student enrollment, are the fastest growing "Minority Serving Institutions" (MSIs) and the number of colleges and universities with such designation has increased from 189 institutions in 1994 to 523 institutions in 2018 in 27 states and Puerto Rico.

Former San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales championed the extension of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) to connect San Jose, the Bay Area's largest city to San Francisco, Oakland and other cities. San Jose is the third largest city in California and home to many Silicon Valley companies. BART recently announced approval of its expansion into San Jose and formidable Latino leaders urge the station be named after Ron Gonzales. Latino Journal agrees.
