Board Member Robert (Bob) Criss, CDT from Bates Technical College Dental Lab Program along with some of his dental technology students were onsite to witness this important event.
The Bill:
The Department of Health (DOH) will be determining how this bill will be implemented. WSDLA will be working closely with them to help ensure the responsibilities of laboratory owners are easy to implement and comply with this new law. Our goal is to ensure that the registration fees are reasonable and only covers the costs of the DOH managing the registrations of dental laboratories.
All dental labs servicing dentists in the State of Washington must:
- Register with the Department of Health
- Disclose to the dentist materials used in the device
- Disclose to the dentist the city, state and country where the device was made
In addition, effective January 31, 2021:
- The owner or an employee must complete 12-hours of NBC-approved continuing education annually
Finally, by January 31, 2025:
- The owner or an employee must be a Certified Dental Technician in good standing with the National Board for Certification
What’s next:
Your Board of Directors are currently working to finalize implementation recommendations, setting up meetings with the Department of Health and gathering and reviewing other state’s registration implementation materials so that they can finalize WSDLAs “2019 Guide to Laboratory Registration” for our members.
