INDIANA DENTAL LICENSE RENEWAL DEADLINE IS MARCH 1

If you haven't yet renewed your Indiana dental license, you have one month left. Indiana dentists and hygienists must renew their licenses by Friday, March 1. Below is key information about the renewal procedure, CE opportunities and frequently asked questions about state and federal requirements.

LICENSE RENEWAL PROCESS

On December 1 you should have received an email from the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency with a unique verification code. The 2024 license renewal process is now completely online, so you will be required to log in to the PLA's license renewal portal in order to renew for the 2024-26 licensure cycle.

Below is a link to the PLA's license renewal portal. If you have trouble logging in or need assistance with the renewal website, contact the PLA at pla8@pla.in.gov or 317-232-2960.

LICENSE RENEWAL FAQs

Can I complete a paper renewal form?

No. The State of Indiana's professional licensing is now completely online. You should have received a renewal email from the State of Indiana on December 1 with a renewal link and a unique verification code.

What if I never received or can't find the renewal email from the state?

Be sure to check your spam and junk folders for the email. It should have arrived on December 1 with "Indiana Professional Licensing Agency" as the sender. If you still can't locate the email, contact the PLA at pla8@pla.in.gov or 317-232-2960.

Who do I contact if I have trouble with the license renewal website?

The PLA recommends using Google Chrome as your browser for the renewal website. If you need additional assistance with the renewal process, contact the PLA at pla8@pla.in.gov or 317-232-2960.

Do I have to take CE if I just graduated from dental school?

No. If you received your initial dental license on or after March 2, 2022, you do not need to complete additional CE for this renewal cycle only.

Can I carry over credits from CE in the previous licensure cycle to apply toward this renewal?

No. All licensure CE must have been completed between March 2, 2022, and March 1, 2024.

Are OSHA and HIPAA required for my Indiana license renewal?

These topics are required by the federal government, not the state, so you will not be asked if you have taken this CE during the Indiana license renewal process. However, you may apply CE hours in these topics toward your required Indiana hours.

How do I calculate my CE hours?

Lecture/didactic courses are worth 1 credit per hour of instruction. Hands-on courses and workshops are worth 2 credits per hour of instruction.

If I have an Indiana CSR, do I still need opioid CE?

Yes. Indiana requires you to have completed 2 hours of opioid CE in opioid abuse and prevention before March 1. This is separate from the DEA's MATE Act requirement for anyone with a DEA registration. The link below includes more information about the MATE Act.
