Faith Baca is the 2017 Denver Post Colorado State Spelling Bee Champion

On Saturday, March 11, more than 270 top student spellers from across the state came to University of Denver's Sturm Hall to compete in The 77th Annual Denver Post Colorado State Spelling Bee competition. Students were vying for the championship title and an all-expenses paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington D.C.

After the morning vocabulary and spelling tests were graded, the competition was narrowed down to the top 33 finalists for the afternoon oral rounds. Faith Baca, an eighth-grader from Rocky Mountain Expeditionary School of Learning in Denver, won the Spelling Bee after spelling rhabdoid (meaning shaped like a rod) correctly in the 21st round. Luke Henson from Christian Home Educators of CO in Denver took 2nd place and Edwin Wojcik from DSST-Conservatory Green in Denver took 3rd place.  To see the 33 finalists and their results, click here
