Opportunity Knocks in 2024

Happy New Year, fellow Denver Republicans!

As we turn the page on 2023, we're filled with hope and optimism for the year ahead. Though we face challenges, this is an opportunity to show what our party stands for - limited, effective government, fiscal responsibility, and maximizing freedom and opportunity for all.

In 2024, share faith, family, and freedom:

  • Reach out to your community with positive, principled messages that speak to shared American values. There is so much common ground if we approach discussions with open hearts.

  • Have compassionate yet practical conversations about improving life for Coloradans. With creativity and good faith, we can forge solutions.

  • Remain engaged locally. Our neighborhoods and cities mold Colorado's future. From school boards to city councils, we must make our voices heard.

The fabric of our great country has always been vibrant debate and compromise. We can help weave a new chapter - one defined by grace, wisdom, and vision.

But we must do it together. May you have a happy and purpose-filled 2024. Onward with heads held high!

Valdamar Archuleta Announces Congressional Candidacy

Candidacy Announcement Video

Valdamar Archuleta: A True Voice for Denver - It's Time for Change!

In a time of unprecedented challenges, Valdamar Archuleta is determined to bring about real change. Born and raised in Denver, Archuleta has watched his beloved city and country face growing adversities. Now, he steps forward as a candidate for Colorado's First Congressional District, ready to make a difference.

Witness to a City's Struggle: Denver, once a thriving city, is now grappling with a surge in homelessness, which has increased by 46% in just one year. The shadow of drug addiction looms large, with nearly one in ten adults in Colorado having lost a family member to an overdose, predominantly due to fentanyl. Rising crime rates and escalating violence have almost doubled in the past decade, reflecting a community in distress.

Economic Hardships Hit Home: The cost of living in Denver has skyrocketed. Inflation has made basic necessities painfully expensive, requiring Coloradans to earn $15,000 more to maintain the standard of living from just a few years ago. This financial strain is a stark reality for many, as prices continue to rise at an alarming rate.

A Call for Fiscal Responsibility: The federal government's financial mismanagement is glaring, with no balanced budget passed since 1998 and no surplus since 2001. This fiscal irresponsibility is a burden on future generations, a situation Archuleta is determined to change.

Challenging the Status Quo: Despite public discontent, with 85% of Americans believing the country is headed in the wrong direction, a staggering 98% of U.S. Congress members were reelected in 2022. This cycle of complacency is what Archuleta aims to break. He is not a typical politician; he's not armed with a fancy degree, nor is he a millionaire. Instead, he's a Denver local who's seen enough of the country's shortcomings and is taking a stand.

Join the Movement for a Better Tomorrow: Valdamar Archuleta's campaign is more than just a bid for office; it's a call to action for everyone who dreams of a better future for Colorado and the nation. He invites you to join him on this historical journey. Your support through volunteering, spreading the word, or donating can help bring about the change we desperately need.

Political News

Trump Triumphs: Record-Breaking Victory in Iowa Republican Caucuses Sets Stage for Political Landscape Shift

In a historic turn of events, former President Donald Trump has secured the largest margin of victory in the contested Iowa Republican caucuses, surpassing the previous record held by late Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole. Trump's commanding lead stands at an impressive 51 percent of the vote, a staggering 29.7 points ahead of Gov. Ron DeSantis. This record-breaking win not only doubles Dole's margin but also marks the highest vote share in Iowa Republican caucus history. The overwhelming support for Trump highlights the undeniable energy and enthusiasm from the Republican grassroots, as major outlets, including the Associated Press and CNN, declared the race only 30 minutes after the caucuses began, emphasizing the decisive nature of Trump's victory. As Trump and his opponents gear up for New Hampshire, this triumph sets a significant tone for the upcoming political landscape.

Here Comes the Mud

The upcoming presidential campaign is predicted to be the dirtiest yet, with political vitriol already at an all-time high. Former President Donald Trump and incumbent "Demented Joe" Biden are engaging in a war of words, hurling insults and accusations from afar as face-to-face debates seem unlikely. Trump labels Biden the worst President in history, while Biden paints Trump as sick, a Nazi, and a climate denier. Bill O'Reilly questions the necessity of such negativity but points out that Biden needs to portray Trump as a demonic force to secure reelection. As the campaign unfolds, brace yourself for a wobble in democratic discourse, with hatred dominating and rationality taking a back seat.

A New Twist on Crime from Illegal Border Crossings

Border Crisis: Over 2.9 Million Illegal Aliens in 2023 Raise Concerns on U.S. Sovereignty. Biden's border surge in 2023 surpassed the total populations in each of 17 US states. In the past year, a staggering 2,953,676 illegal aliens entered the U.S., surpassing the total populations of 17 states. Does any security actually exist? Despite bipartisan criticism, a seven-fold increase in border crossings since 2020 poses a significant challenge.

Security Alert: Transnational Gangs Target High-End Homes in Detroit! A surge in burglaries of multi-million dollar homes in Detroit prompts action. Transnational gangs, believed to be mostly Chilean, operate with precision, using jammers to overcome wireless security systems. Sheriff Bouchard recommends redundant security measures and vigilance, as the crews focus on targeted, isolated homes. A new task force, SEM CAB, collaborates to combat these sophisticated criminal operations.

19 Buses Unload Migrants in Central Park, Prompting Concerns

On December 29th, 19 buses and vans dropped off migrants in Denver's Central Park neighborhood, raising eyebrows and prompting city officials to investigate. The migrants arrived between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., leaving some at the parking lots of Home Depot, Walmart, and Sam's Club. Reports suggest that, a day later, some migrants returned attempting to earn money by offering services like windshield cleaning and assistance with loading items for customers. There were claims that some migrants were telling customers to pay for free parking, causing concern among businesses and security personnel. Denver’s leaders realize the city can no longer afford to accept indigent migrants from the southern border. Denver Mayor Mike Johnston expressed frustration, emphasizing the need for federal support and a coordinated national plan to address the challenges posed by the influx of migrants. As debates around the city's sanctuary status emerge, the situation highlights the pressing need for solutions. Maybe the City Council should reconsider Denver’s sanctuary city status?

More Polis’ Overreach and Control and Non-Control

Polis’ plan gives the state overreaching control over all aspects of life in Colorado. Governor Jared Polis is making waves with his extreme progressive agenda, laid out in the Roadmap to a Future Colorado 2026, revealing a vision for state control over every aspect of Colorado. Seeking to reshape the state according to his ideals by its 150th anniversary, Polis focuses on housing as a key issue, proposing measures like subsidies and bureaucratic management, which undermine free-market principles and have shown ineffectiveness elsewhere. Beyond housing, Polis's roadmap extends to transportation, water, and open spaces, with plans for mass transit, solar, electric, and air quality mandates, imposing burdens on businesses and communities. This ambitious plan signals a dangerous overreach of government power, threatening individual communities and the core principles of local governance.

Polis pitches tax cuts, but his Democrat-run statehouse isn’t on board. Colorado Governor Jared Polis and economist Arthur Laffer have penned an article advocating for reduced tax rates while simultaneously criticizing the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) in Colorado. They assert that TABOR's focus on tax payments instead of rates misses the mark and suggest that TABOR surpluses should trigger permanent tax rate reductions, not rebates. While this aligns with the views of many Republicans, Governor Polis has not shown any initiative in pushing his fellow Democrats, who hold legislative control, to enact such changes. What's particularly interesting is Polis's claimed desire for tax rate reductions, considering he signed a 2021 bill that complicates the passage of income tax cuts through ballot measures, introducing misleading language that falsely links tax cuts to reduced funding for essential services like education and healthcare. The apparent inconsistency raises questions about Polis's commitment to actual tax relief.

Colorado Democrats Supermajority Abuses Their Own Ranks

In a recent courtroom hearing, a Denver judge cast doubt on the use of secret ballots, employing quadratic voting, by Colorado state lawmakers to prioritize bills. The method involves anonymous online voting each spring to allocate parts of the state budget to favored bills. While proponents argue it streamlines the legislative process, critics, including the Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition, criticize its lack of transparency and exclusion of the public. Judge David Goldberg expressed skepticism about the defense's claim that the anonymous ranking is a mere "data point," voicing concerns about legislators hiding their positions. The lawsuit, brought by the conservative Public Trust Institute, asserts that quadratic voting denies public accountability and allows for secretive decision-making. A ruling is expected by the end of the month.

Keeping Parents in The Dark - Gender Identity Run Amuck

In a shocking incident from Colorado's Jefferson County School District, a fifth-grade girl was reportedly compelled to share a bed with a biological boy during a school-sponsored field trip. Outraged parents, including Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), have demanded answers and accountability. The ADF, representing the 11-year-old girl and her parents, is challenging the school's policies that led to this situation. According to the parents, their daughter was unaware of the arrangement before the trip, and the boy, who identified as a transgender girl, revealed his identity to the girls during the stay. The incident highlights concerns about the lack of transparency in the school's policies, prompting the ADF to demand clarification and potential opt-out options for parents in the future. Parents need to become aware of these issues, and CPAN (Center for Parental Awareness and Nurturing) serves as a valuable resource for empowering parents with information and support.

U.S. District Judge Nina Wang dismissed a civil case brought by parents against the Poudre School District, alleging a violation of their parental rights under the 14th Amendment. The parents claimed their middle-schoolers experienced emotional harm after attending a Genders and Sexualities Alliance meeting, prompting them to remove their children from the district. This decision poses a challenge to the growing conservative parental rights movement seeking to limit school teachings about gender, sexuality, and race without parental consent. Wang's ruling aligns with the district's argument that parents don't have a constitutional right to receive notice about objectionable topics discussed in extracurricular clubs. The case sheds light on the broader debate around parental rights in education, with attorneys having until Jan 9 to file a motion to amend the court order.

Mayor Johnston’s Denver Housing First Program Not Addressing Underlying Problems

Out of 550 homeless individuals urged by Denver officials to relocate to temporary shelters, only one chose to enter a treatment program, shedding light on the inadequacies of Mayor Mike Johnston's approach to the city's homelessness crisis. Despite facing a severe drug overdose crisis, with 38% of 477 overdose deaths involving homeless individuals, the housing-first strategy implemented in Denver appears to lack the necessary focus on addressing the root problem of addiction. The housing dashboard indicates that more than 90% of people remain in the program 30 days after moving in, but critics argue that the emphasis on immediate shelter overlooks the urgent need for comprehensive treatment solutions. As Denver strives to reach its year-end goal of housing 1,000 homeless people, concerns persist about the effectiveness of the current approach, which prioritizes shelter over essential treatment services.
