Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, Johnnie has deep roots in the local community and understands the unique challenges facing its residents. With a background in nonprofit business management and advocacy, Johnnie has spent decades working to improve the lives of his fellow citizens. As a proud Republican, he is committed to upholding conservative principles and fighting for the rights of all Coloradans. Johnnie's leadership, integrity, and tireless dedication make him the ideal candidate to represent House District 5 in the Colorado State Legislature.

Goals and Priorities:

1. Economic Prosperity: Johnnie W. Johnson is dedicated to fostering economic growth and opportunity in House District 5 and across Colorado. As a staunch advocate for free-market principles, he will work tirelessly to create an environment where businesses can thrive, jobs are plentiful, and wages are competitive. Johnnie understands that a strong economy is essential for the well-being of all Coloradans, and he will prioritize policies that encourage entrepreneurship, innovation, and investment in the local community.

2. Reducing the Size of Government: Johnnie believes in the importance of limited government and individual liberty. If elected, he will focus on streamlining government bureaucracy, cutting wasteful spending, and reducing unnecessary regulations that stifle economic growth and infringe on personal freedoms. By promoting fiscal responsibility and accountability in government, Johnnie aims to empower individuals and communities to make their own decisions and pursue their own goals without undue interference from the state.

3. Legal Immigration Reform: Johnnie recognizes the contributions that immigrants make to our society and economy. However, he also understands the importance of a secure and orderly immigration system. Johnnie will advocate for sensible immigration reform that prioritizes legal immigration channels, strengthens border security, and enforces immigration laws fairly and effectively. By addressing the root causes of illegal immigration and providing a pathway to legal status for law-abiding immigrants, Johnnie seeks to uphold the rule of law while promoting compassion and respect for all individuals.

It is noteworthy that none of the passed legislation will do anything to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

Democrats Join Governor To Take TABOR Funds (Again)

In a bold money grab, Colorado Democrats and Governor Jared Polis announced sweeping changes to the state's tax code, reducing income taxes while redirecting taxpayer refunds to low-income parents and the middle class. The legislation attacks the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) by repurposing expected refunds to fund over $700 million in new tax credits aimed at poverty reduction. These laws represent a progressive overhaul of TABOR refunds, effectively redistributing taxpayer money and shifting the money to Colorado’s lower income citizens.

2 Years of College in Colorado Could be Funded by TABOR

Colorado's new bill, HB24-1340, uses taxpayer money to fund two years of college for low-income students. This refundable state income tax credit covers tuition gaps, and is expected to cost taxpayers $38M annually from the state TABOR fund. You can view the Fiscal Note here.

TABOR Tracker

This tracker details the money that Colorado Democrats in the state legislature are diverting from your TABOR refunds. The data sheds light on the decisions that directly impact your financial well-being and underscores the importance of staying informed and engaged in the political process. Take a closer look at how your money is utilized and consider the implications of these actions on your future. It may become evident that your hard-earned income is being redirected towards initiatives that may not align with your priorities and values.

Homelessness in Denver

Despite Denver spending a staggering $274 million to combat homelessness, the crisis has worsened, with the city seeing the largest increase in homeless individuals nationwide. Critics argue that Denver’s reliance on emergency shelters and temporary solutions, primarily managed by large nonprofits like the Salvation Army, has failed. The current strategy, which prioritizes quick fixes over permanent housing, results in only 20% of homeless individuals finding long-term housing. Denver’s mismanagement highlights a need for accountability to address and resolve the homelessness crisis.

More Government Overreach

Colorado's ban on handheld electronic devices while driving exemplifies government overreach that undermines our individual liberty. SB24-065, mandating hands-free technology for calls and prohibiting other phone uses, addresses distracted driving but encroaches on personal freedom. Existing laws already prohibit texting while driving, and further restrictions infringe on individual responsibility and autonomy. Such measures risk a slippery slope where government increasingly dictates personal actions under the guise of safety. While the bill aims to reduce accidents, it sacrifices freedom for control, reflecting a trend toward nanny-state policies prioritizing regulation over personal choice.

Migrant Students Overwhelm Colorado Schools

Almost 2,500 migrant children have been added to Denver Public Schools this year at a cost of $4.9M The state funding was only approved last month, with only two months left in the school year. The money will come from the State Education Fund and be distributed using a multitiered funding model. It is estimated the city of Denver has spent $120M taking care of those who crossed the border illegally.

Weaponized Justice System Fails to Take Out Trump (Again)

In a not-so shocking revelation, Special Counsel Jack Smith's team admitted to tampering with evidence seized from President Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate. The FBI altered the order of documents in the boxes, violating court rules and casting doubt on the integrity of the prosecution. This blatant mishandling undermines the entire case against Trump, showing clear intent to mislead the court and the public. This is another example of relentless persecution and sedition against the former President. Judicial Watch's Tim Fitton rightly stated that this admission warrants the dismissal of this sham prosecution. The American people deserve better than a justice system corrupted by bias and deceit of the Democratic Party.
