Administration of the Department of Biomedical Informatics aligns very strongly with the digital information and strategy work that Dr. Tachinardi has been doing for the college and UC Health. Additionally, his many years of leadership experience and his international reputation in biomedical informatics makes him an ideal person to lead the department. His immediate plans include preparing a new mission statement for the department, exploring new collaborative efforts with other departments and programs and beginning the work to recruit new faculty.
I would like to sincerely thank Mario Medvedovic, PhD, who has served as Interim Chair of the department since February 2020. He has had a strong stabilizing influence on the department since assuming leadership responsibilities and I greatly appreciate his efforts and willingness to accept this role. Dr. Medvedovic will return to his activities as Professor in the Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences and as Director of the Center for Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Services.
