Dr. Jennie Ono wants to thank the incredible personnel at all of the NYP campuses. On Thursday, a 15-year-old patient who had previously received a heart transplant arrived at Queens' pediatric emergency department in severe condition and needed ECMO. This was a remarkable instance of cooperation between peds and adult services, as well as across campuses, to arrange for her safe transportation up to Morgan Stanley. She arrived in critical condition, and with the help of the Morgan Stanley heart failure team (David Kalfa's team and the PICU), Queens peds ED, peds cardiology (Maria Thanjan), and the Queens adult heart team (Charlie Mack, adult CT surgery, Queens, and Steve Oh, pediatric surgery), along with roughly thirty other individuals from various disciplines, she was stabilized and cannulated for ECMO at Queens prior to transfer to MSCH and is currently stable. It was an impressive mobilization, and everyone went above and beyond for this patient. It was really an incredible effort.❤️
Share your appreciation for colleagues by submitting a shout-out for inclusion in the department newsletter here!
