COVID Shots for Kids Are Over

Dr. Sallie Permar comments on the FDA’s new approach to COVID-19 vaccines—a shift that could significantly impact pediatric immunization. The new strategy may limit or delay access to updated COVID vaccines for children, raising concerns among health professionals about protecting younger populations from emerging variants. Read more about what this could mean for families and the broader public health here!

New Proposed Federal Rule

There is a new proposed federal rule that could significantly impact the independence of NIH and other research funders by reclassifying scientific leadership roles as political appointments, meaning future administrations can appoint and remove NIH Institute and Division Directors based on political preference rather than scientific expertise and experience.

The proposal (click here) would treat grantmaking as a political function. Public comments are open until June 7, 2025.
