Progressing Leadership

Deputy Commissioner Keith Robinson

Team DPW,

The department has experienced multiple leadership changes in the past few weeks. As a result of these changes, several key leaders have been promoted, including Interim Commissioner Kentorri Garmon, Interim Deputy Commissioner Melissa Davis, and Interim Deputy Commissioner Kanika Greenlee. A common factor among these promotions is that each leader previously reported to Deputy Commissioner Keith Robinson. This exemplifies what leadership is about: opening doors for those you lead.

Deputy Commissioner Robinson's Background

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Robinson is a visionary and accomplished senior-level strategy executive with over 20 years of experience transforming strategic plans into workable solutions. He has held various roles in the City of Atlanta and currently serves as the DPW Deputy Commissioner. He is also a graduate of Fisk University.

Before his current role, Deputy Commissioner Robinson was the deputy director for the Mayor’s Office of Innovation and Performance. In this position, he was responsible for providing tactical support for the development of the city’s budget and overseeing citywide financial and operational performance. Throughout his tenure, he worked closely with City of Atlanta department heads to develop strategic initiatives.

In the private sector, Mr. Robinson was a global director for a major consulting firm, working with clients ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies in various industries such as oil/gas, industrial automation, intelligent buildings, supply chain & logistics, telecommunications, electronic manufacturing, water/wastewater, transportation, and government. His experience gives him a comprehensive view of best practices, business models, and trends that will shape society in the future.

Deputy Commissioner Robinson considers his greatest accomplishment to be his ability to develop talent and help employees progress in their careers. He has helped several employees advance to become vice presidents and presidents of companies. Inspired by General Electric CEO Jack Welch, Mr. Robinson focuses on developing leaders and has carried this approach over to the City of Atlanta. In his role at DPW, three leaders who reported to him have been promoted to senior-level positions, including two interim deputy commissioners and one interim commissioner. Additionally, he briefly worked with the Deputy Chief Procurement Officer.

Growing up as the child of a pastor, Deputy Commissioner Robinson is dedicated to serving others and believes in leading by example. He aims to assist individuals in reaching their full potential, both in their professional lives and through community service. He is eager to continue his work at DPW and is passionate about developing future leaders for the City of Atlanta.

Thank you, D.C. Robinson, for your willingness to advance leadership!
