Dermatology Residency Track With Pediatric Dermatology Focus

As part of our continued efforts to create solutions for the workforce shortage in pediatric dermatology, the SPD is launching a 3-year dermatology residency track for applicants who have completed general pediatrics training and are board certified or board eligible in general pediatrics. This training pathway was carefully constructed through feedback from SPD members, our Workforce & Fellowship Directors Committee and the American Board of Dermatology (ABD).

See Program Requirements and Eligibility Criteria

Completion of a pediatric dermatology fellowship is expected/anticipated upon completion of this new residency track. The pediatric dermatology fellowship is independent from this residency track, and this newly formed track does not replace the current path to pediatric dermatology certification.

By building a larger pipeline of pediatric dermatology-trained fellows and physicians and fostering cross-disciplinary knowledge, our commitment to providing the best patient care possible is strengthened.

Special thanks to Drs. Esteban Fernandez-Faith and Ilona Frieden for leading efforts to develop this important initiative. The SPD has reached out to 15 programs that have expressed initial interest in offering the pathway at their institution. If you would like your program to be considered for this track, please contact Dr. Fernandez-Faith.
