Community Center Plans Changed
|
The Derry Township Board of Supervisors held a special public meeting April 21, 2020 for the purpose of discussing additional changes to the Community Center project that was approved in December 2019.
The board voted 3-2 in favor of reducing the competitive pool from a 35-meter to a 25-yard pool. In addition, the board voted unanimously to put in a hybrid foundation system recommended by project geotechnical engineers, ARM. That system is estimated to cost an additional $250,000. The board also voted unanimously to add in a required fire system for an estimated cost of $8,000.
Once work begins, the community center construction is expected to take 22 months.

The Hershey Food Bank has modified operations to ensure safety for our clients and volunteers, but is following normal distribution scheduled. We have sufficient volunteers at the current time and are trying to minimize people on site to reduce unnecessary interactions. Our greatest needs right now are (1) funds to procure food due to temporary reductions in local donations and (2) donations of hard-to-obtain and high demand items that our clients need: Tuna, canned meats, baked beans, canned peas, peanut butter, Hunts canned pasta sauce, laundry detergent, bars of soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and sanitizing wipes. For more information about drop off locations for any extra items you might have to donate, and for a link to make a monetary donation, please visit our webpage:
hersheyfoodbank.com and check the “Food Bank News” page for updated information. We appreciate all the community support at this challenging time!
