Rain Barrel Workshop Provides a Free Rain Barrel
|
Rain barrels collect roof runoff and store the water for future use providing many environmental benefits. Rain barrels are inexpensive to install and maintain.
Dauphin County Conservation District in partnership with Derry Township Municipal Authority is hosting a virtual rain barrel workshop. The workshop will be held online, Tuesday, May 4th at 6:00 PM. Workshop participants can pick up their rain barrel at the Derry Township Municipal Authority (DTMA), located at 670 Clearwater Road, Hershey, the following day. Rain barrels will be provided for curbside pickup. The workshop is open to all Derry Township residents who are interested in installing a rain barrel, but will be limited to the first 50 who register. There is no cost to attend the workshop. Workshop participants will receive a FREE RAIN BARREL (Limit one rain barrel per household).

Please note that water collected in a rain barrel contains some pollutants and is unfit for human consumption.

Derry Township Youth Fishing Contest
|
The Township of Derry Department of Parks & Recreation will be holding a youth fishing contest at Bullfrog Valley Pond. This contest is open to anglers ages 12 and under. Registration is not required.
The pond will be stocked with trout sometime during the week of April 26th (the exact day is weather dependent).
After the stocking announcement is posted, anglers ages 12 and under will have 7 days to attempt to catch the largest trout.
Anglers of other ages may fish during this time, but they are not eligible for the contest.
In order to compete, anglers will need to submit a photo of their catch at the official measuring station at Bullfrog Valley Pond (near the gazebo).
The photo will need to clearly show the measurements of the trout and be emailed to fishingcontest@derrytownship.org along with the child’s name, age, address, and phone number.
A grand prize will be awarded to the top angler!
Please follow all CDC and Department of Health Guidelines while participating. Good luck!

Please register for an outside program. Join Kathleen Forney, Fused Glass Artist, to make one of two projects. The first option is a fused glass patchwork plate. You will choose the colors and cut the glass. The second option is a butterfly or dragonfly mosaic piece that can be displayed on a wall or tabletop. Each project costs $45. The program is suitable for teens and adults.

It’s a Hershey Public Library tradition – a surprise Mother’s Day art project. Back by popular demand, Meghan Winslow of SPLAT Studio – Spirited People Learning Artfulness Together – will help the children design a special project for a loved one. Budding architects and LEGO fanatics ages 6 and older, join Ms. Rita for virtual LEGO Club. Please register to receive a Zoom link for with the week's challenge. We will share related stories and videos, and participants will have the opportunity to share the creations they made to meet the week's challenge.

The Hershey History Center is pleased to announce Hershey Artfest will return on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at the Cocoa Beanery and Englewood Barn complex in Hershey, PA.
Mark your calendar to participate and help us celebrate fine art, artisans, music and food on Mother’s Day Weekend, nestled among the green spaces of the kid and pet-friendly Cocoa Beanery and the new entertainment venue and brewery, Englewood Barn.
This is the same event you have grown to love, kicking off the spring art festival season!
Guests will experience a variety of fine art and guild craftwork for both the serious and casual collector, represented by as many as 150 artists and artisans.

Derry Township Community Cats Clinic
|
Derry Township Community Cats offers township residents assistance with trapping outdoor free-roaming cats to have them spayed/neutered and vaccinated for free. The next clinic is May 11th. reservations can be made by calling the "cat line" at 717-592-8087.
Residents may also obtain low cost spay/neuters and vaccinations for owned cats by calling the same number. Please note that cats must be at least six months old. For more information visit www.derrytownshipcats.org.

Miles for Matthew Pritchett
|
Matthew may have died, but it's equally important that he lived. We remember his compassion and satisfaction he felt from giving of himself and helping others. We celebrate his life, and want to keep him a part of something permanent. We believe we are all responsible for the well being of our community and feel this annual Remembrance Walk keeps Matthew connected to all of us.

How to Talk to Kids about Race
|
Join Hershey Area All Things Diversity to learn how to help youth disrupt racism, change the norm through listening, develop empathy and create understanding for one another.
This program will help to guide attendees in engaging youth in difficult conversations about race, and the impacts of racism on our youth. In addition to teachers and counseling staff from Milton Hershey School, teens will be on hand to offer their perspectives on approaching the topic of racism.
Hershey Area All Things Diversity is a free series of programs to create awareness and promote acceptance and inclusion in our community. It is coordinated by Derry Township, The Hershey Story Museum, Derry Township School District, Milton Hershey School, The Hershey Company, Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts, and Hershey Trust Company.

Raise a Glass and Take a Virtual Trip with The Hershey Symphony Orchestra
|
Join the Hershey Symphony Orchestra on May 23, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for a virtual trip to Austria, Italy, France, and the United States to enjoy wine and cheese pairings with Sommelier Carrie Elliott. At each stop, Hershey Symphony Music Director Dr. Sandra Dackow will share the musical impact that these countries’ composers have made. Participants will enjoy musical samples by composers from each country performed by members of the Hershey Symphony Orchestra.
Participants will pick up their special wine and cheese boxes in Hershey the day of the event. Instructions for pick up and a link to access the event will be sent after registration. The cost is $75 per wine and cheese box with all proceeds benefitting The Hershey Symphony Orchestra. Reservations are limited and may be made on the Symphony website.

Hershey Area Playhouse to Host Open House on May 15
|
Join the Hershey Area Playhouse for an open house on May 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Themed Entr'acte, which means the start of Act 2, the event is both a fundraiser and a chance for our Playhouse community to come together to celebrate the arts in our community and the Playhouse reopening for visitors.
We are inviting family and friends to bring a blanket and settle on the Playhouse lawn to enjoy a variety of entertainment and festive activities. These include Broadway Roulette, a game-show style presentation of Broadway songs and crowd favorites, and audience participation Broadway Karaoke. The Playhouse will also be open for visitors and tours.
Onsite, guests can also purchase a gift card for future performances and learn more about group sales.
The event will be primarily outside, and guests must adhere to CDC guidelines. No RSVP is necessary—just head on over to the Playhouse lawn at 830 Cherry Drive on the grounds of Country Meadows in Hershey. This event is rain or shine.
