Solid Waste Subsidy Program Provides Assistance
Residents who are struggling to pay their trash collection bills may be eligible for enrollment in the Township Solid Waste Subsidy Program, which will cover the quarterly fees.

Please contact the Township Administration office at 717-533-2057, for guidelines and an application.
Boathouse Road to Close for Sweet Lights
The Derry Township Police Department has issued the following Traffic Advisory:

Boathouse Road will be closed daily beginning today through January 1, 2019 from 4:30 to 11:00 p.m. for Sweet Lights.
Holiday Blood Drive - Gifts for Donating
A Blood Drive will be held at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue, on Monday, December 17, 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Stop by and donate a pint to the Central PA Blood Bank. Donors will receive two vouchers to a Harrisburg Comedy Zone Show, two tickets to the PA Auto Show, and a Blood Donor T-shirt.

Please bring ID with you and eat a meal within four hours prior to donating.

Township Seeks Candidates for Advisory Board Positions
The Board of Supervisors will be accepting applications for the following boards:

Uniform Construction Code Appeals Board, Board of Library Directors, Municipal Authority, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Planning Commission, Zoning Hearing Board, Tax Collection Association, General Authority, Downtown Core Design Board

Residents that are interested in getting involved in local government are encouraged to submit a resume and cover letter to: Township of Derry, Board of Supervisors, 600 Clearwater Road, Hershey, PA, 17033, by December 28, or email to The Board will make appointments at the January 7, 2019 reorganization meeting.
9th Annual Holiday Movie Extravaganza
Come in your pajamas and be ready to be transported from the Hershey Public Library to Jolly Old England! Join us for A Muppet Christmas Carol (Rated G) and enjoy popcorn and apple juice and maybe even a few surprises on Thursday, December 20, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Registration is not required.  
Witches and Wizards Yule Ball
Friday, December 21, 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.

Calling all witches and wizards in grade 6 and higher.
Come to the Hershey Public Library for the Yule Ball for wizardly treats, games, and prizes. Formal robes and waltzing are optional.

Township facilities will close at noon on December 24 and will be closed on December 25.
In the Middle: Creativity - COOKIE Time
In the Middle will be held at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue, on Wednesday, December 19 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.

Students in grades 6 and higher will enjoy crafts, tech, and film, based on December's monthly theme which is food.

Library and Recycling Center Hours and Addresses
Recycling Center Hours   - 650 Clearwater Road 
The hours for the Recycling Center changed to the winter schedule on November 5. The Center will not be open on Wednesdays and Saturday's hours are 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. through March 9, 2019.

Hershey Lions Members Recognized for Service
Members of the Hershey Lions Club were awarded Certificates of Appreciation by the Immediate Past District Governor, Lion Kathy Fouse, of District 14-T. Three long-term members were recognized for their commitment to Lionism within the 4-county district, which includes Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata and Perry counties.  

Hershey Lions members Cliff Passuello, Steve Gallerizzo, and Krista Callear were recognized in November. Collectively, these Lions have been serving the community for almost 30-years and all have participated in various club projects. Passuello was recognized for his role as Zone Chair, and also received the “Above and Beyond” club member award. Gallerizzo received the Club Secretary award, and Callear was recognized as the district’s liaison to the PA Lions for Guide Dogs, Inc.

The Hershey Lions Club achieved the Membership Satisfaction Award from Lions Clubs International for the 2017-2018 Lion Year. Immediate Past International President, Dr. Naresh Aggarwal, recognized the club for exemplifying the Lions Mission Statement: “to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.”

Hershey Area Playhouse Hosts a 20 th Anniversary Cabaret Night
Hershey Area Playhouse will host a 20 th Anniversary Cabaret Night on Saturday, January 5, beginning at 7:00 p.m., at the Playhouse, located at the corner of Sand Hill Road and Cherry Drive.
The evening will begin with a light reception during which guests will be able to bid on 20 incredibly unique silent auction items, including sports memorabilia, VIP experiences, and walk on roles in one of our shows! The evening will also include a musical program featuring local talents that have graced our stages, singing at our musicals over the past 20 years.
The current lineup of performers includes: Amy Jo Brixius, Nina Clay, Katie Copeland, Susan Cort, Natalie DeSantis, Adam Estep, Kate & Max Foley, Kacy Hartmann, Gabi Hemsch, John Mallonee, Eric Mansilla, Colleen Mullikin, Valerie Schrader, Joshua Schwartz, Ceila Traverse, Ian Wallace, Sarah Zahn, and Travis Zimmerman.

Cocktail attire is requested for this event. Tickets are $40 per person.

Hershey Horticulture Society to Meet in January
The Hershey Horticulture Society will meet on Monday, January 7, at the Brownstone Lodge, 215 W. Governor Road, Hershey. The educational program will provide an update on regional conservation by the Manada Conservancy. Sally Zaino will address the Kittatiny Ridge efforts and Jen Hine will cover the Swatara Greenway conservation project. 

The program begins at 1:00 p.m. and the public is invited. All are welcome to join HHS at 11:00 a.m. for the business portion of the meeting and learn more about the organization. Call 717-545-7538 for further information.
