2021 Community Health Needs Assessment
Community Member Survey
Penn State Health wants to understand and address the health needs of the communities we serve. We need your input so we can develop community programs to help you.

You may be facing additional issues during COVID-19 but we hope you will complete this survey based on your overall health needs.

Hershey Community Center Construction Update
At the most recent Board of Supervisors Township meeting, Parks & Recreation Director Matt Mandia presented an update on the new Community Center's construction and shared some recent photos. His presentation can be viewed on our YouTube channel.

Making Movies – The Craft, The Secrets, The Fun with Tom Capps, Phil Russell, and Janelle Tedesco
Saturday, February 20 - 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Do you have a young person at home interested in learning about making movies? Filmmakers Tom Capps, Phil Russell and Janelle Tedesco will pull back the curtain to reveal some tricks and secrets behind how movies are made. Whether it’s a big budget or independent film there is always an illusion to create and a way to accomplish it! Register online to join a virtual Friends program for tweens and teens. 
Start Climbing Your Family Tree
Monday, February 22 - 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Register online for an introduction to genealogy with Sarah Gutmann. In this virtual Friends Adult Program, learn tips and tricks on how to get started building your family tree. 
Dungeons & Dragons Made Simple
Friday, February 26 - 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Aly and Ms. Rita will guide you through how to be the family's DM (Dungeon Master). But don't worry, there are no Giants, Orcs, or Elf Bards with Healing Powers, unless you want them. Please register.
Community News and Events
Derry Township Community Cats to Begin Clinics
Spring is right around the corner, which means cats will be out and about and kittens could soon follow. Derry Township Community Cats offers township residents assistance with trapping outdoor free-roaming cats to have them spayed/neutered and vaccinated for free. The next clinic is March 9; reservations can be made by calling the "cat line" at 717-592-8087.
 
Residents may also obtain low cost spay/neuters and vaccinations for owned cats by calling the same number. Please note that cats must be at least six months old. For more information visit www.derrytownshipcats.org.
First United Methodist Church invites you to love your neighbors by donating items at our “Pop-Up Community Drive”!
Date: Saturday, February 27
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Location: 64 W. Chocolate Ave., Hershey, PA 17033 - First UMC upper parking lot with drive- through donations drop-off via alley (rear of church).

Pop-Up Community Drive Collections:

  • Hershey Food Bank: Collection of non-perishable food items: Baked beans, peanut butter, pasta sauce (no glass jars please), chunky type soups, pancake complete mixes, pancake syrup, canned vegetables (no green beans or corn), canned mixed fruit, canned pears, diapers (size 5 only), laundry detergent, paper towels, sanitizing wipes.

  • Love INC’s Personal Care Closet: Collection of household items for local persons in need: Body wash, hand soap, household cleaner (screw-top preferred), dish liquid, diaper cream.
Soldiers of the Law Motorcycle Ride
Saturday, April 24, 2021 - leaving at 11am

The Ride starts at the police Academy (187 E Hershey Park Dr, Hershey) and ends at Harrisburg 1st Church and is open to any motorcyclists!

The registration fee of $25 includes:
• Blue Knight and Police Escorted 85 mile ride through several counties w/ mid way rest stop
• Light Breakfast before ride and sit down meal at the church after ride
• Sales of police collectables, clothing, and related items in Museum gift shop
"The Perils of Plastic"
Manada Conservancy will host an online program, “The Perils of Plastic,” on Thursday, February 25, at 7:00 p.m. Our speaker, cutting-edge plastic pollution researcher Dr. Sherri Mason, will discuss the proliferation of plastics in our society, its emergence as one of the most prominent environmental pollutants, and the prevalence of microplastics in freshwater systems. For a link to this free program, register at this site.
Cocoa Packs Returns
Cocoa Packs is excited to announce that they will once again be a distribution site for round 5 of the USDA Food Boxes. Those in need may stop by our drive thru on Mondays & Wednesdays anytime from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. at 500 Homestead Rd in Hershey beginning February 1st through April 28th.
