PPL Works on Homestead Road
PPL started construction near Homestead Road and Derry Township schools. During construction, you can expect to see traffic controls and some road closures.

Township Seeks Candidates for a Vacancy on the Zoning Hearing Board
The Board of Supervisors is seeking applicants for a two-and-a-half year unexpired term on the Zoning Hearing Board.

The Zoning Hearing Board has five members and renders decisions on cases of appeals, variances, and special exceptions that arise from the administration of the Zoning Ordinance. The Board meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building.

Interested residents are requested to submit a cover letter and resume by July 18 to: Township of Derry, 600 Clearwater Road, Hershey, 17033, or jillh@derrytownship.org.
Derry Cats Holds Clinics
Derry Township residents can sign up to get help with trapping outdoor, free-roaming cats they are feeding and having them spayed/neutered and vaccinated for free. The next clinics (note date change) are on July 13 and 16. Reservations can be made by calling 717-592-8087. 

You can also schedule a low-cost spay/neuter and vaccinations for owned cats by calling the same number. Visit  www.derrytownshipcats.org  for more information about this program and ways you can support it.
Love Your Library
The July/August 2019 issue of Woman's Day featured an article "Love Your Library," highlighting how libraries offer more than just books. Hershey Public Library was mentioned for their how-to-courses like flower arranging. Make sure to sign up for their electronic newsletter to see what upcoming classes are offered.

Market on Chocolate will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. this Saturday at ChocolateTown Square.

Shop a selection of prepared foods, artisan wares, and locally grown produce.

Activities this week include a class at 9:00 a.m. (hi-impact) and 10:00 a.m. (low-impact) - Full Body Circuit Training by Rita Geigel Fitness.

Friends of the Hershey Public Library Summer Film Festival: Based on the Books
Sunday, July 7, 2-4 p.m.
 
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Rated PG. 

In the first movie in the summer series, watch and see how a local scientist is often regarded as a failure until he invents a machine that can make food fall from the sky. But little does he know that things are about to take a turn for the worst. 

Everyone is welcome to the program. Registration is not required. Friends will provide snacks.
Mark DeRose Performs Musical Children's Program
Tuesday, July 9, 1 :00 - 2:00 p.m.
Presenting the guitar talents of Mark DeRose for an hour of music and songs that children will love. Registration is not required.

Terrific Tuesday Programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Hershey Public Library and are suitable for children in grades K-5.
Watch a Movie Under the Stars in Shank Park
The July movie in Shank Park, sponsored by the Friends of Parks and Recreation will be Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. The movie will be shown on Friday, July 12 and will begin at dusk. A concession stand will be open.

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets or watch from your car. The rain date is July 20. Shank Park is on Bullfrog Valley Road.
National Night Out is Tuesday, August 6
The Derry Township Police Department invites you to National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the 1st block of W. Caracas Avenue.

Join us for a fun evening to promote community unity against crime. Free food and games!

Teens to Cook in a Solar Oven
Wednesday, July 10 is Teen Time at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue. 
Tweens and teens in grade 6+ will go outside, weather permitting, build a solar oven, and make s'mores or baked apple slices!
Interested in Computer Science?
Join a CS50 Certification Program that may help to further your professional career or break into the lucrative field of computer science.

The Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue, will offer a class for teens and adults on Thursdays, July 11 through August 8 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Experienced computer science students will help you complete Harvard’s introductory computer science course. Registration is not required.
Come to the Library to Make a Craft and Watch a Movie
Friday, July 12, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

The movie Zathura (rated PG) will be shown after children make a theme related craft. The movie is about two young brothers who are drawn into an intergalactic adventure when their house is hurled through the depths of space by the magical board game they are playing. Inspired by Chris Van Allsburg's book. Suitable for kids in grades K-5. The program is free, and everyone is welcome.

Join Derry Church for Vacation Bible School
"What Will You Choose"
“What Will You Choose” Vacation Bible School will engage children with the parables of Jesus. The week-long program for children age 4 to entering fifth grade will be held from 9:00 a.m. to noon, July 29 - August 2 at Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 East Derry Road, Hershey. Children will enjoy learning through Bible stories, crafts, songs, games and mission activities.

“What Will You Choose” Vacation Bible School will conclude with a musical program and picnic at 12:00 p.m., Friday, August 2.

Registration continues through July 15. The cost is $10 per child, with a $40 maximum per family. Enrollment is limited, and preregistration is required. To register and pay online, go to https://derrypres.org/events/vacation-bible-school-what-will-you-choose .
