Greater Hershey Regional Transportation Plan
The Greater Hershey Regional Transportation Study DRAFT is available for public review at the following location: https://www.hrg-inc.com/greater-hershey-area-study/. Eric Stump from HRG will be making a presentation on the report at the July 28 Board of Supervisors meeting.

Any comments or questions on the report, recommendations, maps or exhibits should be directed to Alyx Gallagher, HRG, via email at agallagher@hrg-inc.com. We request any comments or feedback by Friday August 7, 2020. Upon receipt of comments, HRG will evaluate them, update the plan as required, and distribute a Final Report by August 31, 2020.

This project was undertaken in the summer of 2018 in an effort to identify future transportation improvements that may be necessary to accommodate projected growth and development in the greater Hershey area. Geographically, the study considers all of Derry Township and Hummelstown Borough, along with portions of Londonderry Township. The study involved the analysis of existing conditions, planned development, and projected growth to identify impacts to the transportation system. It includes in a capital improvement plan identifying recommended transportation improvements and costs, suggested updates to the Derry Township Official Map, and information to be included in project statements for major regional improvements to submit to HATS for inclusion on the TIP.

The project was largely funded through a PennDOT Connects Planning grant, administered through TCRPC and HATS. The PennDOT Connects effort involves coordinating land use planning with transportation planning so that one is not being considered without the other. The Greater Hershey planning process has involved discussions with various stakeholders to ensure that the plan considers transportation needs and circulation patterns in relation to projected growth and development.

In general, transportation improvements can take many years to plan, design, fund, and construct. Having a good plan in place and identifying necessary improvements is the first step to defining a project and seeking funding.

Sciencetellers: Dragons
Return of the Ice Sorceress
Tuesday, June 30 at 1:00 p.m.

Please register for this virtual program on the Events Calendar at www.hersheylibrary.org

It all begins a long time ago in a faraway world, when two brave villagers go on a daring journey to release the dragons and save the kingdom from the Evil Ice Sorceress. When things don’t go as planned, however, they might need to look to themselves (and to science!) for the answer. Explore the exciting science of solids, liquids, and gases as we conduct experiments with DRY ICE. Watch a fun, fantasy adventure and along the way you’ll discover just how ‘cool’ matter can be! Throughout the showing, the host will answer questions, conduct polls/quizzes, and even teach a science experiment you can do at home. (Under adult supervision.) This program is suitable for children in grades K-5. Everyone is welcome. Please contact the Children’s Librarian, Rita Smith, at 717-533-6555 ext. 3715 or by emailing ritahuntsmith@derrytownship.org or call 717-533-6555 if you have questions.
