Trail Reopened
The Jonathan Eshenour Memorial Trail was closed in the area of Forest Avenue for work related to the PPL 69kV transmission line rebuild project. The trail is now open.

Central Penn Parent Magazine Names Derry Officer a Healthcare Hero
Derry Township Officer Darren Cotten was presented with the 2019 First Responder Hero award from Central Penn Parent's Healthcare Heroes. Central Penn Parent’s 12th annual Healthcare Heroes awards program recognizes excellence, promotes innovation, and honors the efforts of individuals and organizations making significant positive impacts on the quality of health care, and as a result the quality of our lives, for families in Central Pennsylvania.

Officer Cotten was selected for the award for his hard work, instruction, and dedication to the Teen Driver Program, DARE Program, National Night Out, and well as his involvement in Stop The Bleed training. 

The winners were announced and recognized at a breakfast celebration on March 12, held at the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg. The finalists and winners will be featured in a special section of the April/May 2019 issue of Central Penn Parent. Congratulations Darren!  
Take a Chance on a Karns Foods Shopping Spree
In support of the new Hershey Community Center, Hershey Middle School 8th grader Cali Oyerly is organizing a raffle with Karns Foods to offer a three-minute shopping spree on Saturday, April 13 for the winner of a fundraising raffle. Participants must be 18 years of age or older to participate in the raffle. Tickets are $10 each or Buy 2 Get 1 Free for $20.

Tickets will be available at Karns on Saturday, March 16, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tickets will also be sold at the Hershey Community Center Open House on March 23 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Hershey Recreation Center, 605 Cocoa Avenue. The raffle winner will be drawn on April 6, 2019. Participants do not need to be present to win.

Oyerly also held a fundraiser in lieu of birthday gifts to benefit the new Community Center. Her generosity inspired a resident to match her gifts with his donation of $1,000.

Community Invited to Last Dance Party at Recreation Center
In honor of the old dances that were held at the Hershey Recreation Center “back in the day,” the public is invited to attend a Last Dance Luau on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m.

The adult-only event is $25 per ticket and includes food, beverages and music provided by local DJs. All proceeds benefit the new Hershey Community Center.

Spring Shred-It Event
The spring Shred-it Event will be held on Saturday, April 6 from 8:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Public Works Facility, 650 Clearwater Road, Hershey.

Protect your personal information and bring the documents that you no longer need to be destroyed. This event is for residents only and is limited to two bags/boxes per household.
Let the Library Assist You with Your Job Search
High school students are invited to attend a program to learn tips and tricks to better job hunting on Friday, March 15 at 3:30 p.m. at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue.
Splat Studio Art Class Offered
SPLAT Studio will offer a painting class on Sunday, March 17 at 2:30 p.m. at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue.

Register in person to join Meghan Winslow for a step-by-step lesson on how to use acrylic paint to create this adorable pair of chickadees. No art experience is needed. The class fee is $35 (per painter) and is payable at registration. All supplies for this 12" x 12" wooden panel painting are included in the registration fee. This class is for adults and teens 13 and older accompanied by an adult.
Make Cards with Stampin' Up! Products

Drop in to meet new friends and enjoy making two handcrafted seasonal cards. Different stamping techniques with Stampin' Up! Products will be demonstrated. These classes are designed for adults and children 13 and older with an adult companion. The class fee of $6 per person is payable at the session or prepaid at the front desk.

Tickets Still Available for Tomorrow's Performances of Jesus Christ Superstar
Hershey Symphony Orchestra is proud to present the acclaimed musical Jesus Christ Superstar on stage at The Hershey Theatre, Saturday, March 16, at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. 

With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, this groundbreaking musical brings rock and opera together to tell the story of the Easter Passion. Jesus Christ Superstar is a timeless work that tells the familiar story through the unfamiliar lens of Jesus’ betrayer.

Hershey Camera Club Invites You to "Purposeful Passion"
Join award winning photographer Candy Delaney of Passionate Perspective Photography, at the Hershey Camera Club's, HCC, upcoming meeting on March 28. 

During her presentation, "Purposeful Passion", she will share what she has been up to since her last presentation at HCC. You are sure to be inspired and learn how passion drives content creation opening future opportunities.

Improve Your Photographs
The Hershey Horticultural Society, HHS, will meet on Monday, April 1, at the Brownstone Lodge, 215 W. Governor Road, Hershey. A member of the Hershey Camera Club will give a presentation on practical tips for getting great photos. 

The program begins at 1:00 p.m. and the public is invited to attend. The public may also join the HHS at 11:00 a.m. for the business portion of the meeting and to learn more about the organization. Call 717-545-7538 for more information.
Fresh Air Fund Seeks Host Families
The Fresh Air Fund, an independent non-profit organization serving low-income, inner-city youth since 1877, is seeking host families in central PA to open their homes to children ages 7-12 for one week this summer. 

Hosts can be families with children, empty-nesters, singles, retirees or young couples. You select the gender and age of the child (7-12); we provide transportation, local volunteer support and a life-changing week of fun and friendship.

Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Fry
The Knights of Columbus will host a Fish Fry in the St. Joan of Arc Church school cafeteria, 329 W. Areba Avenue, Hershey, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29 and Friday, April 12.
The menu will include fried or baked fish, french fries or mac & cheese, and coleslaw or applesauce. Drinks and desserts will be available. The cost is $8.95 for a two-piece and $10.95 for a three-piece fish dinner. The proceeds benefit Knights of Columbus charities.
Hershey Area Playhouse Introduces its First Ever Musical Theatre Camp March 23-April 13, 2019
Running every Saturday March 23-April 13, this 4-week camp with provide three experienced teachers lending their skills in music, choreography, and acting. No experience is necessary, just come to enjoy learning and sharing the elements of a musical.

Sessions for grades 4-7 will run from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. and grades 8-12 will run from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The cost is $200 per student.

This Musical Theatre session will focus on the tools necessary to perform musicals:

  1. Music is the key--learn how to sing, strengthen your vocals, learn harmony and volume
  2. Choreography is essential--learn different kinds of dance, dance sequences and moving to the beat of the music
  3. Acting brings it all together—learn how to stay in character while singing and dancing

This camp will help prepare students for the junior musical the Playhouse will produce in November, Dear Edwina Jr.

Help to Fight Cancer and Participate in Bark for Life
Bark For Life® is an American Cancer Society Relay For Life fundraising event that honors the caregiving qualities of canine companions. The Bark for Life event includes a noncompetitive walk for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer.

This year's event will be held on Saturday, April 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Herbert A. Schaffner Memorial Park (a.k.a. Boro Park) in Hummelstown.
