PPL Prepares for Power Line Rebuild
Throughout May, the PPL team will continue digging test holes and drilling soil borings. This information is used to design the underground line. In addition, they’ve been working with landowners to secure easements.

Position to Be Filled on the Tax Collection Association
The Derry Township Board of Supervisors is accepting applications for a position on the Derry Township Tax Collection Association. The term will expire on December 31, 2020.

The Tax Collection Association meets on the fourth Thursday of each month, or as needed, at 6:00 p.m. at the Tax Office, 610 Clearwater Road, Hershey.

The Tax Collection Association consists of seven members, which include members from the School District and the Township. The Association makes decisions regarding the collection of local taxes and operation of the tax office.

Motorists, Drive Carefully Near the Schools
on May 8, Bike to School Day
Bike to School Day is Wednesday, May 8th! Watch out for students riding to school.

Hershey Bears mascot Coco and the Penn State 
N ittany Lion will be at the Memorial Field parking lot (at Cocoa and Elm) from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. to cheer on the elementary school students as they arrive.

The first 200 students to arrive will receive a flashing safety light donated by Hershey Entertainment & Resorts and a healthy snack. Bike safety checks will be offered to students.

Students that plan to participate should submit their “Bike to School Day Pledge” here for a chance to win fun prizes!

Who Will Catch the Biggest Fish at this Year's Fishing Derby?
The 44th Annual Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, May 4 at Bullfrog Valley Pond from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.

The event is for anglers up to age 12. Prizes will be awarded for the angler who catches the palomino, longest, and heaviest trout.

A raffle will be held at the end of the Derby for an assortment of prizes from the Hershey/Hummelstown Kiwanis Club and Bass Pro Shops.
USCF Rated Chess Tournament
The Hershey Public Library will hold a Chess Tournament on Saturday, May 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The tournament is open to chess players of all ages and skill levels. There will be three rounds with players in quad sections based on rating and age. This will be a rated chess event requiring current United States Chess Federation (USCF) membership. Sign up for USCF at www.uschess.org .

Young players and players new to rated chess tournaments are welcome and encouraged to participate! Register in advance, or at the event.
Are Your Disc Golf Skills Up for a Little Competition
The Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a disc golf tournament on Saturday, May 11 at Shank Park, Bullfrog Valley Road.

There will be a beginner and advanced division for this non-sanctioned event. Entry fees are $10 per beginner player and $15 per advanced player.

A learn-to-play session providing expert tips on throwing and putting will be offered to beginners at 9:00 a.m. Tee off is at 10:00 a.m.
Downtown Hershey's Next Major Event is the Art Show & Culturefest!
The Art Show & Culturefest will be held on Saturday, May 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in ChocolateTown Square Park and the streets of Downtown Hershey.

This festive day includes a juried art show and cultural celebration. Plan to attend to experience the work of fine artisans, great live music and performances, children’s activities, craft beer and wine, and delicious cuisine representing a variety of cultures.

Remember Those Who Have Died in Service to the United States Military
The Hershey Memorial Day parade will be held on Monday, May 27 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hershey Recreation Center on Cocoa Avenue. The parade will proceed to Elm Avenue, Ridge Avenue, Chocolate Avenue, and will return to the Recreation Center.

The ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the War Memorial in front of the Recreation Center. The event will include a keynote speaker, live music, and a reading of the winning youth essays.

The deadline to register to participate in the parade is Friday, May 24, at noon. Please call the Department of Parks and Recreation at 717-533-7138 for more information.

Star Wars Retro Gaming
Come join us as we play classic Star Wars games from the 90s on Saturday, May 4 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Retro games include X-Wing, Tie Fighter, X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, Dark Forces and Jedi Knight! Registration is not required but is preferred.
Friends of the Hershey Public Library Present a SPLAT Program for Children
SPLAT Studio will be at the library on Sunday, May 5 to present a children's program to design a special project for a loved one.

The program will begin at 2:00 p.m. for children ages 2-5 (The class is full and there is a waiting list.) and 3:00 p.m. for children 6 and up. This program is free and open to the public and will take place in the library’s meeting room. Pre-registration by age group is required. In the Middle Art & Writing
Teens in grade 6 and higher, register to create magic at the Hershey Library! Come and create your own sorcerer’s stone in your favorite color, make a magical dragon egg or a charmed chocolate frog on Wednesday, May 8 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.

As usual, we will open the creative box and see what magical things you make appear. 

Themed writing for teens in 6th grade and higher will be held on Wednesday, May 15 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. This month, we celebrate fandoms. Come to write some fan fiction within your favorite fictional universe.
Second Saturday- Let's Take Care of the Environment
Second Saturday will be held on Saturday, May 11 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. and will f eature the book “The Wartville Wizard”, a fingerplay, and songs about taking care of the environment, followed by a clean-up outside the library in support of Kiss Hershey Back. Succulent Planter Workshop
Saturday, May 11, 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.

Join instructor Kim Bailor for a Macramé Terrarium Workshop and learn how to build and care for your very own terrarium. The cost is $42 and includes a 5 x 5 1/2 glass vessel with a hanging macramé, four healthy succulents, decorative stone, potting soil and instruction on how to care for your piece for many years to come. 
Play Day for Families at the Hershey Public Library
Friday, May 17, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Families with children ages 2-5 are welcome to register for an hour of center-based free play that encourages children and their adults to engage in the five practices of Early Literacy: talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing.

Purchase a GIANT Bag to Benefit the Hershey Food Bank
The Hershey Food Bank and Community Outreach has been selected as the beneficiary of the GIANT Bags 4 My Cause Program! Each time a reusable Bags 4 My Cause Bag is purchased at GIANT at Cocoa Avenue in Hershey, during the month of May, the Food Bank will receive a $1 donation.
The Bags 4 My Cause Bags are located on displays around the store and at the checkout. Bags are $2.50 each and are totally reusable! Tell your family and friends about this great, simple way to help the Hershey Food Bank.

Pick Up a Chicken Barbeque Dinner
The Stoverdale United Methodist Church will hold a chicken barbeque on Saturday, May 11 from 9:00 a.m. until dinners are sold out. The BBQ will be held at the Hummelstown Chemical Fire Company, 249 E. Main Street, Hummelstown.

The cost is $9.00 a dinner and includes half of a chicken, a baked potato, apple sauce, and a roll with butter. 
Kiss Hershey Back at the Annual Clean Up Day
Kiss Hershey Back is a township-wide cleanup effort that began in 2008 by Penn State College of Medicine students to make the Sweetest Place on Earth also the Cleanest Place on Earth.
