Changes to Polling Places
Effective for the November 3rd General Election, the Dauphin County Board of Elections has changed the voting locations for Precincts 1, 3, 10 and 12. The new locations for these Precincts are as follows.

Important Instructions for In-Person and Mail Voting
Whether you plan to vote in person or by mail, there are new details you should know to be prepared. Please visit the Dauphin County Bureau of Elections website for information.
Hazard Mitigation Plan Survey
Dauphin County is updating its Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP). The HMP will analyze the hazards faced by the County and Derry Township, its residents, and businesses, and will identify a strategy for minimizing the vulnerability to these hazards. You can find out more about the HMP and the planning process here: We encourage all residents and visitors of the County to provide input into the planning process. We have developed a short survey about the County and the risks it faces. We would greatly appreciate it if you would complete the survey and otherwise participate in this important endeavor. The survey can be found here: Thank you for your participation in this planning effort!
Reminder: Township Yard Waste Center Hours
The Derry Township Yard Waste Center is still operating under “Summer Hours” until November 02, 2020.

Summer Hours:
Monday & Wednesday- 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Friday & Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Winter Hours (beginning 11/2):
Monday - 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Friday - 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Saturday- 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Shred It Event
Shred It Event will be held tomorrow, Saturday, October 3, 2020 from 8:00 am to 10:45 am at the Public Works Facility. The event is for Derry Township residents only. Limit 2 bags/boxes per residence.
Don’t Forget to Complete the Census
If you haven’t had time to fill out the 2020 Census, please do so soon. The census results help determine how federal funding flows into states and communities each year and determines how many seats in Congress each state gets. Your responses matter and it just take a few minutes! Here’s the link or if you prefer, stop by the Hershey Public Library to pick up a printed copy of the census that you can mail back. Thank you!

PPL Work on Governor Road
PPL has coordinated with PennDOT and Derry Township to move their work on Governor Road (Rt. 322) to nighttime hours. This shift to nighttime work will minimize the impact to daytime traffic, and maximize work efficiency, thereby decreasing the amount of time required to work on Governor Road.

Here’s the current schedule for the night work, excluding weather delays or other unforeseen circumstances:

W. Governor Rd. (SH 322) – nightly road closures from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Monday 9/28 through Friday 10/2; no closure Saturday or Sunday
  • Monday 10/5 through Friday 10/9; no closure Saturday or Sunday
  • Monday 10/12 through Friday 10/16; no closure Saturday or Sunday

Fused Glass Class
Saturday, October 3 - 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Join Kathleen Forney, fused glass artist, under the trees at the library and make either a fused glass plate or a fused glass coaster. Please register online for this outside class. (Ages 14 and older.)
The Art of Truth: A Writing Class on Creative Nonfiction
Sundays, October 4 to November 8 - 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Join us as we explore the exciting genre of creative nonfiction. In this class you can choose to write memoir, essay, biography, epistle, lyric essay, meditation, or a combination of several forms. You’ll have the opportunity to share your work in a supportive, encouraging environment. Here you’ll find motivation and community as you write about real-life experiences. Discovery and camaraderie await you! This virtual class will be presented on the Google Meet. (Similar to Zoom.) 6-week session. Register for all 6 weeks on
Curbside Pickup Service
Beginning on Monday, October 5, the Hershey Public library offers a Curbside Pickup service. Pickups are available Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Place a reservation on an available item (on the shelf) by calling the library at 717-533-6555 or send an email to and schedule a date/time to pick up. There is a 10-item limit for Curbside Pickup.
Nutrition on a Budget
Tuesday, October 6 - 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Join Shanna Shultz, RD, LDN, registered dietitian, to learn tricks and hacks to help increase nutrition while staying on budget. For anyone age 16 and older. Please register online for this virtual program presented on Zoom.
Virtual LEGO Club
Wednesday, October 7 - 3:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Budding architects and LEGO fanatics ages 6+ are welcome to join LEGO Club. Share a story and build to a challenge set by the Children’s Librarian, Rita Smith. Register online on the library’s Events Calendar to join. A Zoom link will be provided along with the week's challenge via email prior to the club meeting. We will share a short story or lesson and then participants will have the opportunity to share the creations they made to meet the weekly challenge.
Open Mic @ the R.G.
Friday, October 9 - 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Come along to the Reading Garden for some socially distant live music. We will be hanging outside and listening to some local musicians share their talent. Please bring your chairs, masks, evening snacks and a blanket if there's a chill. We will be asking everyone to sit socially distant, wear a mask, and respect everyone around them. Enjoy the music. No registration required.

Derry Township Community Cats Clinic
Derry Township residents can sign up to get help with trapping outdoor, free-roaming cats and having them spayed/neutered and vaccinated for free. The next clinic is October 13; reservations can be made by calling 717-592-8087.

You can also schedule a low-cost spay/neuter and vaccinations for owned cats by calling the same number. Please note that cats must be six months old.
