Derry Township Authorizes Construction of New Community Center
At is December 3, 2019 meeting, the Derry Township Board of Supervisors approved bids and made awards for construction contracts to the lowest qualified bidders for the new Community Center Project. Construction could begin as early as January 2020 with a 22-month construction schedule planned. It is expected that the entire community center will be opened by the fall of 2021. (Read more)
Did You Buy Your 2020 Dog Licenses Yet?
Pennsylvania State Law mandates that all dogs three months of age or older must be licensed annually.
Licenses are available for purchase at the Municipal Building, 600 Clearwater Road, Hershey (a $.50 administrative fee is charged), or on-line through PA Dog License (mailing fee applies).
The cost for dog licenses are as follows:
Male - $8.50, Neutered male - $6.50, Female - $8.50, Spayed female - $6.50, plus the applicable fees.
The cost for senior citizens (65 years old and older) dog licenses are as follows: Male - $6.50, Neutered male - $4.50, Female - $6.50, Spayed female - $4.50, plus the applicable fees.
Applications for lifetime dog licenses must be applied for at the Dauphin County Treasurer’s office, 717-780-6556.

PPL Project update
PPL plans to complete restoration for the paved and gravel areas on the Hershey School property before the holidays. The remaining restoration work for the Hershey Company Parking lot and Hershey School property will be completed in the Spring to ensure the best grass growth. Downtown Hershey's Holiday Celebration
Downtown Hershey’s Holiday Celebration will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. in ChocolateTown Square. This exciting event is fun for all ages, and offers a wide array of activities and entertainment for the community. Santa will arrive shortly after 3:00 p.m. and the annual tree lighting ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. Click here for more information.

December 22, our Downtown Hershey Holiday
gnome, Snow, will be making his way around our
participating Downtown Hershey businesses.

New Year's Eve in Hershey
Join us as we "Rock Through the Decades" in Downtown Hershey on New Year's Eve! As we prepare to ring in a new decade, Pentagon and The Mahoney Brothers present "Jukebox Heroes Live" will be playing sing-along fan favorites from the 1960s to today.

We encourage you come dressed to celebrate your favorite decade! As always, the event is FREE and family friendly. Stay tuned for more details about this year's event.

Mosaic Mirror Class
Sunday, December 8 - 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Please register in person at the library to join us for a lesson on how to make mosaic art laid out in your choice of a square or circle patterned mirror. Mosaics are created using small pieces of colored glass and assembling them in a pattern pleasing to the maker and adhering them to a substrate. No art experience needed. Please note: At the completion of this class, the mosaic art will not be completed as the final process of grouting will be done at SPLAT. Participants will be notified when their artwork is ready for pick up at the studio. All supplies for this mosaic mirror art are included in the registration fee. This class is for adults and teens 13 and older accompanied by an adult. Fee: $35 (per painter). Instructor: Meghan Winslow.
Play Day for Families
Friday, December 13 - 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Families with children ages 2-5 are welcome to register for an hour of center-based free play that encourages children and their adults to engage in the five practice of Early Literacy: Talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing. Presented by Barb Clay. Fresh Evergreen Wreath Making Class
Saturday, December 14 - 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (or later)

Please register in person at the library to join this last class of 2019. Instructor, Andrea Beitzel, will show you how to make a beautiful evergreen wreath to decorate your home for the holidays. Fresh-cut greens, ring, wire and ribbons will be supplied and are included in the cost of the class. Fee: $35.

Hershey Volunteer Fire Department Brings Holiday Tradition to Your Neighborhood
Santa Claus will once again be making his way through the neighborhoods of Derry Township, thanks to the Hershey Volunteer Fire Department.
Look for the man in the red suit as he rides on board a fire truck December 7 through 12. You can check Santa’s schedule here and for up-to-the-minute reports, you can put the Gympse app on your smartphone so you know exactly when he’ll be!
Elf Skate & Santa Social
Have you ever wanted to learn to skate with Santa's elves? Santa and his elves will take a quick break from their Christmas toy making to visit & ice skate with us! After the fun of skating with the elves, tell Santa your last-minute wish list over some warm chocolate chip cookies & hot cocoa. Bring your camera for a special picture with Father Christmas himself!  

Sunday, December 22 - Giant Center
6:30-7:30pm - learn to skate & games with the elves
7:30-8:30pm - meet & greet with Santa!

$20 includes ice skating lesson, skate rental, parking at the Giant Center, goodies, cookies, cocoa, & all the pictures you care to take!
