PPL Resumes Work
PPL Electric Utilities will soon resume work to install an underground 69kV line from their Hershey Substation to their South Hershey Substation. A letter was sent to residents in the affected area noting that this project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

This project will not require an electrical service disruption. Building the new underground line will involve many phases of construction, including: building access roads; transporting equipment to the work locations; creating work zones; digging a trench; installing underground conduit and wires; pouring concrete; and finally, restoration of the right-of-way. All disturbance resulting from the construction activities will be repaired promptly following the construction phase of the project.

For your safety, we request you do not interfere with the field work or approach the field crews unannounced. PPL employees and subcontractors working on behalf of PPL are required to carry photo identification and a business card and are required to show them to any concerned landowner upon request.

Derry Township and TONO Group Win Premier Project Awards
Two Downtown Hershey projects were recognized at today’s Dauphin County Premier Projects Awards ceremony. The program was established by the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission to recognize planning excellence in Dauphin County. Projects are judged on their effectiveness and results, originality and innovation, ease of replication, community involvement and participation, and compatibility with the Dauphin County Comprehensive Plan.

The Township of Derry was recognized in the Growing Our Environment category for the West Caracas Avenue Stormwater BMP project. By implementing Stormwater Best Management Practices (BMP), Derry Township converted the West Caracas Avenue Parking Lot from a paved area with no stormwater management capabilities to a surface that can now entirely infiltrate stormwater runoff from a 100-year storm event. The newly installed BMP features allow for groundwater recharge and a reduced volume of stormwater runoff, helping to advance the Township’s MS4 program and improve local water quality. In addition, the project created parking efficiencies, and it allows for better access management and contributes to economic vitality.

TONO Architects was recognized in the Growing Our Economy category for the Hershey Towne Square project. The project helped to further redevelopment in Downtown Hershey and encourage increased pedestrian activity in a mixed-use commercial setting. The project was recognized for its thoughtful design and impact on activating Chocolate Avenue and Downtown Hershey.

Congratulations to TONO Group and Derry Township on these planning excellence awards!
