Proposed 2020 Budget
The proposed Derry Township 2020 budget is available for the public to review on the Township website. In addition, copies are available to the public at the administration building upon request. The Township Board of Supervisors are expected to vote on the budget at its December 17, 2019 meeting. 
Derry Township Police Accreditation
The Derry Township Police Department, as part of our continuing effort to provide quality service to our community of residents, businesses, and visitors, is conducting a survey to gauge the performance of our department. We are required to conduct this survey through our commitment to the standards of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) but also want to continue to grow as an agency in the quality of service we provide. We are asking residents and those who work and visit Derry Township to participate in this survey. It will only take a few minutes to participate, but the information we receive will be helpful to guide us through the next several years of service to the community we honorably serve.  The survey will be open until November 18, 2019 and the link to participate is
PPL Project update
PPL plans to complete current construction work by Thanksgiving, and the remainder of the line will be constructed in early 2020. Restoration activities will be completed in Spring 2020 to ensure best grass growth. For a detailed update or questions, please visit or email  
Downtown Hershey's Holiday Celebration
Downtown Hershey’s Holiday Celebration will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. in ChocolateTown Square. This exciting event is fun for all ages, and offers a wide array of activities and entertainment for the community. Santa will arrive shortly after 3:00 p.m. and the annual tree lighting ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. Click here for more information.

Native American Folk Music with "Spirit Wing"
Sunday, November 17 at 2:00 p.m.

Spirit Wing is a six time Native American Music Award nominee. Since the year 2000, Spirit Wing has appeared at many Native American Festivals throughout North America. Their music comes from a strong folk/acoustic music tradition along with traditional Native songs that date back hundreds of years. All four members of Spirit Wing have performed in various types of bands and ensembles that feature Rock, Blues, Bluegrass, and Country music. Central PA Blood Drive
Monday, November 18 - 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank's bloodmobile will be in the parking lot for this month's community blood drive at the Hershey Public Library. No appointment is necessary. Please bring a form of ID with you. Donors must have eaten within a four hour period prior to donating! If you are unable to attend the blood drive on this day, you may donate at a place and time more convenient to you: When you give the library’s account # 1072, the Hershey Public Library will be able to get credit for your donation. Thank you!
Art in Science
Wednesday, November 20 - 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Join students from Hershey High School's Chem-Med Club as they lead school-age children in grades 2-5 through fun science activities. This program's focus will be light and rainbows. Musical Club at Hershey Middle School to present Inaugural Production
The Musical Club at Hershey Middle School is proud to present their first-ever production, Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. The show will be performed on November 21st and 22nd at 7:00 p.m. at the Hershey Middle School, 500 Homestead Rd. Hershey, PA 17033. Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. is an energetic show featuring memorable songs such as "Conjunction Junction" and "I’m Just a Bill". The production includes over 50 students from 6th-8th grade on stage and working behind the scenes. The Musical Club has been privately funded through generous support from The Trojan Foundation, Hershey Rotary Club, Bryn Mawr Trust, and The Jessica Drew Sunshine Memorial Fund. Tickets for Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. are available at, or at the door before each show.
Community Invited to Annual Peace Tree Lighting Event
Since 1988, The Association of Faculty and Friends (AFF) of the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine has honored and remembered the life of a loved one or friend as well as recognized the light of special people through the Peace Tree Project. The Peace Tree will be unveiled during a special ceremony, featuring performers from the Medical Center and the community, on Thursday, November 21, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. at the Tree House Café in the Children’s Hospital.
The community is invited to purchase a light on the Peace Tree, which will have its place of honor through the new year. To make a donation to sponsor a light, please go to or contact .
"Stuff the Truck" at Karns
On Saturday, November 23, Derry Township Community Cats is sponsoring “Stuff the Truck” - a supply and donation drive at Karns Food Store, 731 Cherry Drive from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The community is invited to bring the following cat care items to put in our truck in front of Karns: litter boxes and scoopers, dry cat food (Purina), wet food (Fancy Feast or Friskies), cat litter (Yesterday’s News), small washable cat toys, paper towels, plates and bowls, antibacterial hand soap, clorox wipes, laundry detergent (perfume free/unscented). Karns gift cards and monetary donations are also greatly appreciated! This event helps to provide our program supplies for the upcoming year.
DTCC provides no cost trap, neuter and return (TNR) services for free roaming cats in Derry Township and low cost spay/neuter services for owned cats. For more information, visit or call the cat line at 717-592-8087.
Land of Fun: The Story of an Old-Fashioned Amusement Park for the Ages

Hershey-Derry Township Historical Society Museum
Al Fasnacht, the senior member of the Fasnacht family of Hershey that has owned and operated
Funland amusement park on the Rehoboth Beach, Del., boardwalk since 1962, will be talking
about his Hershey roots, the family business and the new book about the park and his family at
the Hershey-Derry Township Historical Society on Sunday, November 24 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The book, called "Land of Fun: The Story of an Old-Fashioned Amusement Park for the Ages";
was written by Chris Lindsley, who worked at Funland for six summers in the 1980s.
Copies of the book will be available for sale for $20, and Al and Chris will sign copies after the event.

Community Thanksgiving Meal
What is better than a homemade Thanksgiving meal, complete with all the trimmings?? Sharing this home cooked meal with others!! Join us at Grace United Methodist Church located at 433 East Main Street in Hummelstown, from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 28th). We will be hosting a Thanksgiving Dinner open to the community, complete with turkey, homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry relish and homemade pies! The Hershey Volunteer Fire Department is pleased to invite you to the Third annual Thanksgiving meal. The Hershey Volunteer Fire Department is excited to open its doors and share the holiday. Please come spend the day with them while enjoying great food and great company. No reservations required and of course all the traditional fixings provided 100% by the firefighters.
Book Signing Event at PA State Police Museum
Join us at the PA State Police Museum on Saturday, December 7 anytime between 12-3 p.m. for a book signing from children’s book author, Robin Leigh Stoner. Her first book entitled, “A Horse in Blue, Eli, Call to Duty”, details the journey her horse takes to become a four legged member of the Pennsylvania State Police! The author will be reading her story periodically throughout the event, as well as offering signed copies of her book for sale. All ages welcome. Reservations are encouraged, as space is limited. If you plan on attending, please contact the Museum no later than Friday, December 6 at 717-534-0565 or email Admission to the Museum will be complimentary that day, and our gift shop will be open as well for those last minute holiday gifts.
