HOUSTON RECAP

March 27-28, 2024 | Lone Star College - North Harris | Houston, TX

We are so grateful for the success of the Houston Design Build Competition®!

10 teams and 113 high school students participated

in the competition at Lone Star College - North Harris in Houston, Texas.


They worked for 14+ hours in two days to build structures that

will be donated, sold, and used within their communities.

People's Choice Award Winner

Design Build Competition® People's Choice Award!

COMPETITION WINNERS

The Craftsmanship Award was won by Grand Oaks High School, which had the highest combined Construction Evaluation and Building Code Compliance scores.

Nacogdoches High School was awarded the Team Safety Award

for best overall points for safety judging.

John Zinsmier, of Medina Valley High School – Team 2 was awarded Construction Manager of the Year.


This award was introduced last year and recognizes individuals who meet deadlines, exemplify leadership skills, and garner the greatest points for their video submissions.

John Spurgeon, of Texas City Industrial Trades Center was awarded Safety Person of the Year.


This award goes to one individual who has assumed the role of the Designated Safety Person for their team. Selected by a judging panel of safety professionals, this award goes to an individual who exhibits a keen understanding of worksite safety, appropriate safety regulation, and documentation and ensures that their local worksite is being operated safely.

Texas City Industrial Trades Center was awarded the Architectural Award for the

Open Competition.

Medina Valley High School - Team 1 won the Architectural Award for the

Shed Competition.

The Honorable Mention Award went to Robert E. Lee High School.

Medina Valley - Team 2

won the Best of Show for the

Open Competition.

Bryan High School

won the Best of Show for the

Shed Competition.
