DESIGN BUILD - SOCAL RECAP

March 22-23, 2023 | Golden West College, Huntington Beach, CA

We are so grateful for the success of the SoCal Design Build Competition!

25 teams and 340 high school students participated

in the competition at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, CA.


They worked for 14+ hours in two days with rain and wind to

build structures that will be donated to their communities.

People's Choice Award Winner

1,886 votes were cast for this year's SOCAL Design Build People's Choice Award!

COMPETITION WINNERS

The Rookie Team of the Year Award was presented

to Fontana High School for their outstanding performance.

The Craftsmanship Award was won by Valencia High School, which had the highest combined Construction Evaluation and Building Code Compliance scores.

Rancho Verde High School was awarded the Team Safety Award

for best overall points for safety judging

For the first time the Construction Manager of the year award was introduced, and it was a tie between Miguel Velasquez from Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Mark Richardson Career Technical Education Center and Jacob Garrison from West Hills High School IDEA Center - Grossmont Unified School District.


This award recognizes individuals who meet deadlines, exemplify leadership skills and garner the greatest points for their video submission.

Central Union High School was awarded the Architectural Award for the

Open Competition

Don Bosco Technical Institute won the

Architectural Award for the

Shed Competition.

The Honorable Mention Award went to Los Angeles Trade Technical College.

Tahquitz High School

won the Best of Show for the

Open Competition.

Sultana High School

won the Best of Show for the

Shed Competition.

The Safety Person of the Year Award was presented to 8 individuals,

each managing to tie with a 100% score:

Each recipient demonstrated a thorough understanding of worksite safety,

appropriate safety regulations, and documentation.
