Desperado!!! 6/14/23

Matthew 9:18-22 (KJV)
18  While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

19  And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.

20  And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:

21  For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.

22  But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

DESPERADO-A bold or desperate outlaw, especially of the American frontier.
A desperate or reckless man; one urged by furious passions; one habituated to lawless deeds either for himself or for others.
A reckless, furious man; a person urged by furious passions, and regardless of consequence; a wild ruffian.
Perhaps a better word to describe the woman above would be DESPERATION!!!
As I type this message a horrific storm rages all around-the physical kind of storm. Already, one tree is down and I heard the sound of another blown transformer-no power!! My yard is a swimming pool!!!

This woman “which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years” was a DESPERADO/DESPERATE. She DID NOT CARE if she stepped on anybody's toes, or was rude, or offended anybody-she had ONE CHANCE and perhaps ONLY chance to get to the Lord!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We find numerous other instances of DESPERATION:

Luke 19:1-4 (KJV)
1  And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
2  And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
3  And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
4  And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

Luke 18:35-39 (KJV)
35  And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:
36  And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
37  And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.
38  And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
39  And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

As I type in the dark and the physical storm rages around me, Holy Spirit reminded me of an instance in my life-ONE OF MANY-where I, too was a DESPERADO.

Amanda had lain in an ICU bed for 19 plus days. She had been pronounced dead-not once-but twice. Now Wanda and I were being told that she would never regain consciousness and remain in a comatose state the rest of her life.

The other sad problem was there were NO nursing homes in Georgia that could facilitate her.

We were given one choice-ONE HOPE. Shepherd Spinal Center, the finest hospital in the south for brain and spine injuries.

AND, to add insult to injury, we had no insurance!!!!

I immediately cried out for help at Shepherd and was turned down.

BUT, in DEPERATION, I called again and again-BEGGING for help for little daughter!!

GOD and Shepherd finally heard my cry and graciously accepted her for FREE!!!!!!!!!!

It was only upon admission that the admitting nurse explained WHY they had turned us away at first.

It was not lack of money or insurance, but they wanted to make sure we, the PARENTS ,would not abandon her to be a hopeless ward of the state!!!

In other words, WERE WE A DESPERADO and DESPERATE!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????

Beloved, read Luke 18-the Story of the widow and the unjust judge as a template of CONSISTANT and CONTINUOUS PRAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND, last but not least:

James 5:16-18 (KJV)
16  Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
17  Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
18  And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

AMEN AND AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
