As I love both history and drama, two things come to mind when I think of Glendale: Mary Kay Stearns (a fantastic actress) and the Derby House (a fantastic entry in the National Register of Historic Places).
The Derby House, built in 1926 by Lloyd Wright (son of Frank), is a marvel of Modernist architecture's geometric rigidity and Wright's own sentimental flourish. Pythagoras himself would be awed by the hexagonal dining room and its neighboring two-story living room featuring Twenty-First Century touchstones like floor-to-ceiling windows and a palpable openness.
The cast concrete exterior (purportedly inspired by Mayan patterns) and interior grills and grates (purportedly inspired by nearby indigenous yucca leaves) are alone worthy of a trip to the Jewel City, with an added bonus being that I must take four of our most fabulous freeways to get there. Alas, this bird is car bound due to a recent full throttle collision with a clean window.
