EXPERIENCE THE WONDER WE CALL "HOME"
July 2021
Canada Day 2021

This Canada Day we support and stand with Indigenous Peoples in reflection and reconciliation. We must educate ourselves, support Indigenous-led organizations, and work towards change while acknowledging that this land has been inhabited and cared for by Indigenous peoples for thousands of years before us.

While Canada Day is held as a celebration to honour this country and all the positive and wonderful things we have accomplished as a nation, we must also acknowledge the past and painful history for many. Various areas within the Niagara Region have chosen to cancel their annual Canada Day celebrations in solidarity and in light of the recent tragic events.

We must continue to work towards inclusion, reconciliation, and positive change.
Time for BRUNCH: Brunch Beverages for the Summer!

Just in time for the long weekend, we had the opportunity to chat with Kim and Michelle who are the founders of Brunch Beverages.

Founded in 2020, the company was inspired by a love of brunch and the dream of creating cocktails that pair perfectly with a carefree Sunday “fun day” with friends. There are currently two products on the market including the Strawberry Cider and Mimosa. Made from 100% Ontario apples and strawberries, the cider is a bright drink with fruity notes of strawberries, green apples, and lime.

The Mimosa is Ontario’s first canned version of the drink and is made from 100% Ontario grown grapes and Florida orange juice. With citrus notes and well-balanced sparkling wine, this drink is a perfect take on the classic brunch mimosa.

The vision behind Brunch Beverages was to produce a quality product with simple and local ingredients that contain less alcohol and sugar.

If you’re looking to pick up a few cans and try the drinks out for yourself, they are available at Commissos in Niagara Falls and offered at a variety of different local restaurants.
We asked Kim and Michelle for a fun cocktail recipe just in time for the long weekend and we hope you enjoy their take on a Sunrise Brunch.

Sunrise Brunch Cocktail:

-       1 oz tequila (of your choice)
-       1 tsp grenadine
-       8 oz Brunch Mimosa
-       Garnish with an orange slice

With the summer heat already upon us and restrictions easing, this is the perfect drink to share with friends. Don’t forget to tag us in your cocktail photos to be featured on our social media.

More products will be coming soon with lots of seasonal flavours available at local restaurants later this summer. For those who live within the Niagara Region, Brunch offers FREE delivery on purchases over $50 and a flat fee shipping across Ontario. Products can be purchased online at www.drinkbrunch.com.

Spotlight on Indigenous Creators

Cheekbone Beauty

Founded by Jennifer Harper in 2016, Cheekbone Beauty is an Indigenous-owned cosmetics company that creates cruelty-free and high-quality beauty products. You may recognize the name of the company from an appearance on CBC’s Dragons Den, but Cheekbone Beauty truly deserves recognition for its commitment to sustainability, goal to educate and power Indigenous persons, impactful contributions to organizations that support Indigenous youth (10% of all profits are donated to Shannen’s Dream – an organization that advocates for equitable education funding for First Nations youth), and of course the variety and quality of the products that people have fallen in love with. Products can be purchased online at www.cheekbonebeauty.com and all Canada and US orders over $38 are eligible for free standard shipping.

Satya Organic Skin Care

Another great Indigenous woman-owned and operated company is Satya Organic Skin Care. Made from only five ingredients and packaged using sustainable materials, this cruelty-free and USDA Certified Organic skincare line offers a great natural alternative to many treatments and over-the-counter options for eczema and skin complications. While the brand is based out of North Vancouver, you can find many of their products right here in Niagara at local shops like Garden City Essentials or The Peanut Mill in St. Catharines, or Vita Health Foods in Niagara Falls. With products in stores across Niagara including Fort Erie, Port Colborne, Beamsville, and Welland, you can also order online at www.satya.ca.
