Details for Clergy, Delegates, and Alternates
To the Delegates, Clergy, and People of
The Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan:

The information below will help you plan ahead for our annual diocesan convention, to take place this year November 2-3 in Lansing.

The official Call to Convention will be sent by August 15th. The following information is for your planning purposes and to give you the opportunity to consider nominating candidates for leadership or submitting resolutions.

Accommodations
It is the responsibility of each parish/delegate/clergy to make arrangements for their accommodations. A block of rooms will be available at a discounted rate at the Radisson. Because the discounted rooms are not available for reservation yet, the necessary details will be included in the official Call to Convention.
Schedule
The 144th Convention will open on Friday, November 2nd at 10:00am with Morning Prayer.

The convention Eucharist will be Saturday, November 3rd at 10:00am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lansing ( click here for Google Maps), with confirmation, reception, and reaffirmation.

A more specific schedule will be included in the Call to Convention.
Pre-Convention Meetings
Delegates to convention and any others interested are invited to gather to review the proposed diocesan budget, upcoming resolutions, canon changes, and elections.

There will be three meetings - one in each region. Each meeting will take place from 10:00am-Noon.

Convention Business
NOMINATIONS

The 144th Diocesan Convention will vote to elect new leaders to the Standing Committee and the Diocesan Council.

The convention will elect one lay person and two clergy people to the Standing Committee.

The regions will elect members to the Diocesan Council. -

  • Northern: 3 openings (one must be a clergy person, one vacant two-year term will be filled)
  • Central: 0 openings (due to the restructuring, the Central region already exceeds its canonical number)
  • Southern: 3 openings (one must be a clergy person, one vacant two-year term will be filled.)

The deadline to submit nominations to be on the ballot is October 22nd.




RESOLUTIONS

The deadline to submit a resolution is September 18th.




CHANGE OF DELEGATES

To change a member of your delegation, a form must be filled out, signed, and either mailed or faxed to the diocesan office.

Youth Delegates
High school aged young people are invited to participate at the diocesan convention by applying to become a Youth Delegate.

There are ten youth delegates and ten alternates, some elected by the regions and some appointed at-large by the Bishop. There is no cost to be a youth delegate to the convention.

Vendors & Exhibitors
Vendors and exhibitors are invited to host a table at the diocesan convention. Registration will open when the Call to Convention is sent.
Childcare
Childcare will be provided for children of all ages. The delegation registration form, available in the Call to Convention, will ask about childcare needs.
Registration
Registration will open with the Call to Convention in August.
