Detroit Outdoors News
Hello friends!

We hope you are enjoying the Fall season and all the beauty that comes with it. As the weather changes and the leaves fall, Detroit Outdoors is getting ready to wrap up our inaugural camping season. But this doesn't mean the fun at Scout Hollow is over! We will still be having a fun Halloween event and a few more camping trips! Just because the weather gets chilly doesn't mean we can't have fun outdoors, if you are interested in visiting Scout Hollow during the late Fall or Winter let us know and we'll make it work.
Read below to find out more about what we have been up to.

Sincerely,
D.O. Staff
1ST SEASON OF CLIC TRAININGS COMPLETED
We had 4 successful CLIC trainings this year! We had 46 amazing trainees representing schools, non-profit organizations, recreation centers and other youth serving organizations from all over Detroit. After taking an overnight training they are eligible to bring their youth group to Scout Hollow for an unforgettable camping trip in their own city. Thank you to everyone that participated, stay posted for our 2019 training dates!

CAMPING TRIPS
We have had 9 youth camping trips this year. That is 261 youth camping in Rouge Park! And we still have a few more trips scheduled for the rest of the Fall. If you are a CLIC certified youth leader and want to bring your group camping this Fall or Winter let us know. You can reach us at [email protected].

SITE IMPROVEMENTS
With the help of our our wonderful volunteers Scout Hollow keeps getting better! The construction of a perimeter nature trail continues. Thanks to the National Kidney Foundation and Boy Scout troop #846 work has begun to construct a bridge along our new trail. If you are interested in helping out with these projects and other campground improvements let us know!

OUTDOORS EMPOWERED NETWORK
We are happy to announce that Detroit Outdoors recentely became a member of the Outdoors Empowered Network (OEN)! OEN is an organization that supports programs like ours throughout the country to help them in their mission of training youth leaders with outdoor skills and empower them to bring their students outside! OEN has supported us in many ways including obtaining discounted camping gear that youth groups can use for free when they camp at Scout Hollow with their CLIC trained leader.

THANK YOU!
Thank you for your continued support throughout our first season. An amazing array of organizations and community groups have come together to help us support many youth groups in discovering our natural environment in their own city.
If you have any comments, suggestions, or questions feel free to reach out!

" My stay at Scout Hollow strengthened the love I have for nature. I was immersed in what it had to offer and it means so much to me that I can experience this in our own neighborhood."
