New Permit Tracking Tool by District Now Available
Development Services is pleased to announce a new tool for organized neighborhoods and community liaisons. You can now view weekly reports listing all open permit applications and granted permits for developments in your area.

This new initiative reflects our goal of transparency in government. This is a fantastic tool for neighborhoods. Before, neighbors were often left out of the conversation if a development didn't require a zoning change. Now, you can see a list of permits pulled, along with a description of the work being performed and contact information for the permit applicant. With this new resource, customers also have the capability to sort permits by Council District, giving them easier access to find the information.

To access the tracking tool, simply visit the Summary of Development Services' Permit Activity web site. In the Building Permits Granted section, select your Council District to view details related to the various projects, including the project name, address and description of work.
Congratulations to DSD's Newly Appointed ICC-ES Member

Congratulations to Andrew Espinoza, CBO, MCP, Development Services Manager, Plan Review, for his appointment to the Plumbing, Mechanical, Gas (PMG) International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) as a Listing Committee Member.

As a committee member, Andrew will ensure new building products are properly evaluated for compliance with code and applicable standards.

"Having this professional validation gives business owners and building departments the peace of mind knowing that new products, materials, and components have received the approval of the PMG ICC-ES listing committee," said Andrew.

The ICC Board of Managers approved Andrew's appointment this past October; he will serve from Nov. 1, 2016 through Dec. 31, 2017.

"Representing DSD is a privilege," said Andrew. "I hope my appointment communicates to our city that all of us at DSD are committed to providing the best services possible."

Mapping LID Features

The San Antonio River Authority (SARA) is currently working on a project to map all of the Low Impact Development (LID) features in Bexar, Wilson, Karnes, and Goliad County and is asking for your help in creating one of the most comprehensive LID maps in the country.

DSD parking lot Bioswale now planted at 1902 S. Alamo
LID is a sustainable stormwater management practice that mitigates the impacts of stormwater runoff while improving water quality and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of our communities. Often in traditional development, runoff from a storm event flows across parking lots, roads, buildings and other impervious surfaces collecting nutrient and chemical pollutants.  This untreated runoff flows into storm drains that direct the flow toward our creeks and rivers.  This can have negative impacts on water quality, flooding, and aquatic life and habitats.

Fortunately, LID is becoming an increasingly popular strategy for managing stormwater and has been implemented in communities around North America for over 20 years.

To visualize the efforts being made locally, SARA is looking for feedback from residents, property owners, developers, designers, and engineers about any LID features they are aware of and how these features are being incorporated - from developers incorporating bioretention in large infrastructure projects to residents adding rain gardens and rain barrels to manage runoff from their homes.

Some examples of Low Impact Development include:

  • Rain Gardens
  • Cisterns
  • Bioretention
  • Bioswales
  • Permeable Pavement
  • Green Roofs
If you know of any LID features you would like to be represented in this effort, please contact Kyle Knickerbocker, SARA, at (210) 302-3243 or at [email protected]

For more information about Low Impact Development please visit the SARA at https://www.sara-tx.org/.
