Remote Video Inspections are Now Available
DSD is excited to share we now offer Remote Video Inspections (RVI) for construction projects at no additional cost.

RVIs provide another option to ensuring the permitted work complies with our city’s building-related safety codes. Eligible Building, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing inspections include first-time inspections, and re-inspections for projects with four violations or less.
New GPS Solution for DSD Fleet
Development Services kicked off 2020 with the start of a highly anticipated tech project– the vehicle-based GPS solution for DSD vehicles. This GPS project is a method of monitoring our fleet by using GPS and on-board diagnostics to record vehicle movements. This initiative includes the department replacing its current smartphone-based GPS solution with the new vehicle-based solution for more than 250 DSD vehicles.

The system is comprised of devices installed inside each vehicle that connect to cellular networks where transmitted data provides real-time alerts; can be displayed on a digital map; and generates online dashboards and driver-behavior and vehicle-usage, easy-to-read reports to fleet managers and team supervisors. Sign Up for BuildSA Video Training
The BuildSA Support Team moved the Accela Citizen Access customer trainings to video conferencing due to COVID-19. Since April the department has hosted three sessions, via WebEx meetings, that covered Creating Plats, Traffic Impact Analysis, and Zoning Verification Records. Going virtual, the team is not limited by the physical space in the training room. As a result, we are averaging 30 participants per training, opposed to the 15 we had when doing in-person sessions.  Read more
One Stop Drop Off/Pick Up Protocol Continues
As we continue to navigate through COVID-19, DSD will maintain the current process for the DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP  of project plans, applications and required documents. Drop-off and pick-up times remain the same, 7:45 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), with drop off only from 4 - 4:30 p.m.

We are working hard to minimize risks related to the spread of COVID-19 as the health and safety of our staff, customers, and visitors is our top priority. To support this effort, only three customers at a time are allowed in the building during business hours. All customers and staff who enter the building will go through a health screening and have their temperature checked. We also promote face cloth coverings and social distancing. As such, we ask all visitors to wear their face covering while inside the building and to keep a minimum 6 to 10' distance from each other, limiting close personal interactions with staff.  Read more
