Welcome to KTD Monastery's "Dharma Paths" Course!
Tibetan Buddhism, with its deep teachings on wisdom and compassion, is one of the richest systems of spirituality in the world. Developed and held in the Himalayan mountains by an unbroken line of masters over 1000 years, it is now available to eager students on every continent.
The richness of Tibetan Buddhist teachings can sometimes confuse new students, who look at its wealth of teachings but wonder how to connect.
In modern times, great masters such as His Holiness the 16th Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, made the courageous decision to share the highest teachings of his Karma Kagyu Lineage widely with students in Europe, Asia, and the Americas - bringing gems of dharma to a whole new generation of students.
In honor of Karmapa’s vision, his monastery at Karma Triyana Dharmachakra has inaugurated the Dharma Paths program, named for the initial book on dharma written by the first abbot of KTD Monastery, Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche.
How The Program Came About
Under His Holiness the 16th Karmapa’s supervision and with his advice and blessings, Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche brought profound Mahamudra teachings to students in America, creating yearly retreats and a Three-Year Retreat program to train lamas in the United States.
Based on Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche’s 45-plus years of teaching in America, and his instructions to his lamas on how to introduce the dharma to new students, the Dharma Paths course will lead students through the practices of Shamatha (Quiet Sitting Meditation), Tonglen (Compassion Meditation), Chenrezik (Mantra Meditation) and through the first of the two phases of Mahamudra - the Preliminaries.
