Enjoying the Holidays Safely
As we enter into the holiday season, we know that things are going to be a little different this year. The safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving is to spend it with people in your household. We know that this is not possible for everyone, so if you do plan to travel or see other people, consider taking these steps to make your celebration safer.
1. Wear a mask
2. Stay at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you
3. Wash your hands often
4. Bring your own food
5. Limit the number of guests
6. Consider gathering outside if possible

November is National Diabetes Month!
The risks of COVID-19 are even greater for people with diabetes. This American Diabetes Month®, the American Diabetes Association needs health care providers to join the fight for access to care for all through expanded COVID-19 testing, research, and access to affordable insulin. Visit the American Diabetes Association web page for more information and ways you can help: https://www.diabetes.org/advocacy
Every 21 seconds, someone new is diagnosed! 34 million Americans have diabetes and another 88 million have prediabetes—a number that only gets more dire when you consider its associated health care price tag of $327 billion. Diabetes isn’t a disease—it’s an epidemic.

CHDC Participates in Pottstown Mobile Health Clinic
On November 9, 2020, CHDC was proud to participate in the Pottstown Mobile Health Clinic. In addition to being held on a beautiful day, this turned out to be a pleasant and productive collaboration with Access Services/Street Outreach and Montgomery Co. Health Dept., held at Christ Episcopal Church. Our wonderful nurse/MA team performed over two dozen BP checks, identifying several people with elevated BP levels. Individuals were then advised to schedule an appointment with their PCP for follow-up. Pre-diabetes questionnaires were also administered by our medical staff, with our Behavioral Health staff on hand to provide guidance to people experiencing emotional/social crises; one grateful attendee overwhelmed by her role as primary caregiver left the event with more phone numbers than the Pottstown phonebook! Surprisingly, there were about a dozen participants that were encountered who were already patients of CHDC! Many thanks to Rev. Joshua Caler at Christ Episcopal Church and the many others who donated their time and resources to make this a success!

Important Health News - ROUTINE CARE
The Tri-County Health Council has launched a multi-faceted campaign effort to reach members of the Greater Pottstown region and to encourage people not to wait to seek care and risk your health. Your healthcare provider is prepared to keep you safe during your visit.
- More frequent and rigorous cleaning and disinfecting procedures
- Face masks for everyone
- Increased distance between patients
- Virtual visit options
Routine care, such as doctor visits, dental exams, medication checks, mammograms, colonoscopies, and prostate exams, are proven ways to catch serious health problems early. Also important during this stressful time are mental health and substance abuse counseling and treatment. If you are
due for a check-up, or think you may be having a health concern, DON’T DELAY! Schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider now.
And, as always, if you think you may be having an emergency, such as a heart attack or stroke, call 9-1-1 immediately!
Don’t forget to get your vaccines, such as for the flu, pneumonia, and shingles! They are even more important this year, and are a proven method to reduce illness.
Check out this video from the Department of Health and Human Services!
