Dear DiabetesSister,

Next week, our staff and volunteers are headed to Houston to join over 3,000 diabetes educators at the American Association of Diabetes Educators Annual Meeting. We'll be sharing expertise during sessions and providing information about what we do for our community to all attendees who visit the Exhibit Hall. Stay tuned for a recap in September. In the meantime, take a look at our August newsletter, full of great information about some of the life transitions we experience as women. And check out our latest collaboration with the National Kidney Foundation and WomenHeart.

25 Triumphant (NOT Perfect!) Years THRIVING with Diabetes
From pregnancy to menopause, our experts are full of valuable advice for women with diabetes during important and often challenging life stages.
This month, it's Ladies First, and we are sharing information and supporting women living with diabetes. One excellent piece is our 8 Steps for a Healthy Pregnancy resource by Susan Weiner, MS, RDN, CDE, CDN and Anna Norton, MS.

We are highlighting stories about pregnancy over on our Between the Lines page. Ali D discusses her diabetes diagnosis as an adult and what that meant for her plans of starting a family. And Anna F shares her journey from pregnancy with diabetes through her adjustments as a new mother.

For more pregnancy information, have a look back at our SisterTalk Perspective post, Gestational Diabetes: the canary in the coal mine.

Then head to the JDRF pregnancy resource page to download their Pregnancy toolkit and view other information on pregnancy with type 1 diabetes.
Did you know that August is Gastroparesis Awareness Month? Allergan shares important facts about diabetes and gastroparesis causes, symptoms, and management to help get you in the know.

In our latest SisterTalk Perspective blog post, Sophia shares the long journey to her gastroparesis diagnosis and the importance of raising awareness about this condition.

We are off to Rhode Island for our August PODS Spotlight! Come visit with Rena and her PODS group, the first one in that state, and learn what topics have resonated with the members and why they value having a peer support network!

Latina women have a higher risk of developing diabetes. Find the top five things you need to know about diabetes, how to treat it, and how to find the support you may need in our 5 Cosas Que Las Mujeres Hispanas con Diabetes Deben Saber brochure. Available in Spanish and English in our Library.

Last month we shared a recipe for Salmon Skewers of Love from our friend Chef Robert Lewis (aka The Happy Diabetic). This month, he is back with a special bonus recipe for Shrimp Scampi.

As we head into flu season, Sanofi shares The MyShot campaign. It has important information about the potential dangers of flu and the critical importance of getting a flu shot every year.

*Sanofi is a DiabetesSisters 2019 National Strategic Partner.
Michelle Litchman and Jane K. Dickinson are conducting a study on hypoglycemia from a real-world perspective. This study is approved by the Teachers College Institutional Review Board.

Those who complete the 32 question survey (<10 minutes) have a chance to win one of four $50 Amazon gift cards or a $50 donation to one of 10 diabetes organizations.
