May 2020, ISSUE 139
Dear DiabetesSister,

I hope this month finds everyone safe and healthy and adapting to the new normal in our lives during the COVID-19 pandemic. While it's not our ideal, I am certain that following safety guidelines will help alleviate the numbers of those affected.

At DiabetesSisters, we continue to provide support to our community, with more women joining our monthly PODS Meetups virtually. Now, more than ever, it is important to connect with one another and find support from our peers. If you are interested in joining us online, please check out our calendar below for meetings dates and submit your information to our Interest Form found here.

We continue to update our COVID-19 resource page, providing up-to-date information from our industry partners, patient assistance programs, and tips on ways to cope during this time.

And, we continue to plan. We are aware that once shelter-in-place guidelines are lifted, we are still a community of people who may not choose to socialize in public. That being said, we are working on ways to bring you more education virtually. Stay tuned for more information!

I urge you to take a look at our newsletter this month. We continue to bring you expert articles, tips, and a new survey to help further our research on fasting (please take the survey!).

Until next month, stay safe, stay home, and reach out to us if we can provide our services.

In Sisterhood,
Anna

Sweat it out this month with our Experts! They've got tips and advice to help you get moving!

Exercise can help us live well with diabetes, but what happens when a second diagnosis makes working out difficult? Ginger V shares her story of finding exercises that she could enjoy after being diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

Finding yourself inspired to get moving after reading Ginger's story above? As a bonus, she has shared two Simple & Short: At-Home Bodyweight Workouts you can do right now!

If you fast for any reason (health, religion, lab work, basal rate testing, etc.), help us gather further information on needs around fasting with diabetes. This survey is a follow-up to one last year, which was presented at the ADCES annual meeting. Both men and women with diabetes are invited to take this short anonymous survey. Results will be shared with ADCES and ADA.

We've gathered trusted resources and valuable tips to help you navigate these trying times. Check back often for the latest updates and additions.

Sara P tells us why her first time attending Leadership Institute was a remarkable weekend that left her inspired and motivated, both for her work leading her PODS Meetup group and to reach her personal goals.

Our downloadable Hypoglycemia resource is full of information on symptoms, treatments, and how to be prepared if you have diabetes or if you spend time with someone who does. It is available in both English and Spanish in our online Library.
